There are several ways to increase your metabolic rate. For an initial start up in the morning, you need to eat some protein. This will help get your dietary system warmed up and ready to digest throughout the rest of the day. An example would be two pieces of toast with PB on it.
For food stuffs to consume throughout the rest of the day, anything spicy or very cold will do: ice water (cup full of ice then topped with water), medium-hot salsa are two examples. The cold works because your body needs to expend energy to warm up the liquid you are consuming. In the spicy foods, there is a natural chemical that promotes an increase in the metabolic rate (don't know the name, sorry).
Hope this helps:)

I have heard that spicy foods are good to increase your metabolism - but beware some spicy foods are also high in fat and very rich too.
