I just moved into my apartment on the 2nd. I moved in and now, within this past week my dog has been scratching. I didn't think too much of it, because it wasn't that serious, but now it has gotten pretty bad. At this moment, I can't bring her to the vet to get a flea bath, I have to do it at home.. whats the bed kind of shampoo I can do to wash her (I'm going to the store NOW before it closes)
Also, I looked on my bed (she's a big dog ..german shep/golden ret mix.. and she lovess sleeping my on bed and couch, and I have no problem with it) and I saw a blackish brown spot and I went to touch it and it was a flea. I got to pick it up and look at it, and it freaked me out. Now my apt is small, and I need to get rid of these monsters off my dog and out of my apt!!
How do I get them out of my apartment!!!!

BOMBS!!!!!

And Frontline your dog, wait 2 days then bathe. Get bombs from the vet when you get the Frontline. Wal Mart & Petsmart crap doesn't work.

Hope you didn't buy any flea treatment from a store! They really don't work, especially shampoos. You NEED to get a treatment from a vets. Frontline can be picked up without actually having to take the animal in. Get a veterinary spot-on -and a spray for your house sounds essential because possibly the fleas were already there before you brought your dog in. You've only seen one or two on your bedding - trust me when I say there will be hundreds more!! Stores are not licensed to sell the chemicals that are effective against fleas, so don't waste your money.

The safest and cheapest method of getting rid of fleas is to use a mixture of boric acid and salt. The powder should be sprayed on bedding, carpets and other areas frequented by your pets.

water kills off the fleas, so give him a bath where he is covered with water (except for his head, of course). also, before you put him in the water, put a flea collar on him because when fleas feel water, they run for the head, and the collar will kill them. they also have powder stuff at wal-mart to sprinkle on carpets and furniture, just look in the pet section. as for the sheets, once you kill the fleas from the rest of the house, just wash them, and they'll be fine. also, for your dog, go to a vet, and get frontline or advantix (use frontline if your dog is going to be around cats).

Flea dip the dog, then bug bomb the apartment. Wash all your linens in hot soapy water. Flea comb the fleas and eggs from the dog's fur. You can drop whatever you find into some soapy water. Put a flea collar in your vacuum bag so that the eggs don't hatch and invade again from the vacuum. Dust the furniture with flea powder and vacuum it out. Be vigilant or you'll just end up spending more money and time on the little boogers in the long run.
Good luck!

Go to Petsmart (since they have a Vet's office) or any other Vet's office and ask for Fronltine. It is sold @ Vet's offices, but can sold over the counter (no prescription needed, so no need to have a current relationship with that Vet). It's a topical flea treatment you apply once a month. Also, by treating the dog, you will also be treating your house since any fleas in the house will eventually jump on the dog, bite him and then die.

Frontline cost about $13-$15 per tube. Don't use ANY of the stuff you can buy in stores, it can be harmful. The shampoos you can buy may work, but they won't prevent or kill any fleas that may jump on him AFTER the bath.
