Actually, yes. I do think it will play a large part in all areas of socio-economic culture for several more generations.

But I think as globalization increases, and religions are more in competition (for lack of a better word) for adherents and resources, they will essentially wipe eachother out.

But I also think individual spirituality is going to be more popular in the future too.

Religion will never disappear. There will always be incompetents looking for an imaginary friend --- and what priest is ever going to leave the church and get a real job?

I wonder if we'll see something cyberpunk-esque emerge. For example, as speculated in some role-playing games, maybe there will be a "cyber papacy" and "cyber pope", and followers' will each be able to "interface" with God through some huge virtual reality matrix. They will be able to gather political influence together more quickly than ever before.

Does anyone else find the atheists predictions of "the fall of religion" just as funny as fundamentalists predictions of "the end of the world"?

EDIT: Further thoughts. Do you want to know what it will look like in 50 years? Look at the young population today...look at how many are latins. In general, most latin families are very christian. So...your wishful thinking is going nowhere. In 50 years, you will most likely be living in the newest country to be part of latin america and still be very much Christian. Enjoy :)

50 years? Yes.

100 years? Maybe not.

300 years? No.

But I'm sure the politicians will find some other divisive thing to keep people afraid/angry/arrogant.
