we roman catholics do not worship the Virgin Mary, rather we venerate her and ask her to pray for intercession in what we ask. As the mother of Jesus, she is widely believed to intercede in our behalf, whatever our religion is as long as we ask. and how could a son say no to his beloved mother?not Jesus.

Why single out Roman Catholics?
Most mainstream Christian denominations other than protestant ones honour and venerate Mary as the Mother of God. Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Russian and Greek Orthodox all venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary. However, you only have the Roman Catholic Church in your mind. None of the Churches mentioned worship the Blessed Mother of Jesus: they simply give Her the Honour She is due as being in the unique position of being the human being chosen by God to be the mother and guardian of His Son.

I'm not anti-Hindu but when I see Hindus kneeling before their statues in their shrines, incence burning, placing flowers and food in front of the statue and praying in the name of that god, I consider them to be praying to what (or who)ever that statue represents. Can any Catholics tell me whether they agree with that or not? Or is there actually no such thing as idolatry?
Some RCs here insist that the once-dead-but-now-alive Mary in heaven 'doesn't do anything'. In that case, why pray to her? Then they add that she intercedes on their behalf and takes their requests to God - sort of heavenly post-lady? Well, that is most certainly doing something! But why don't they pray directly to Jesus himself? Don't they know the Bible tells them to do that? Don't they realise the curtain in the temple was rent assunder at Christ's death, showing the way into heaven was then opened up for us? Jesus said, 'And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it.' (John 14:13-14) He said, 'whoever comes to me I will never drive away' (Jn 6:37). Why are they so scared of Jesus?
If Catholics are being encouraged to do something the Bible gives no warrant for, who is guilty of propaganda?

The proper place in worship for the Virgin Mary as one who enables our prayer. Because she is the ever-virgin and so blessed by God "From this day all generations will call me Blessed," her prayers united to ours make ours gainful in blessing, grace and beattitude which we ourselves could not gather alone. The Ten Virgins who need oil for their Lamps would never fail if they go constantly to the Blessed Virgin and obtain the oil of prayer. Anyone poor and lacking in any virtue of purity or vigilance would find in Mary the greatest help of sinners.
As Explained in the Catechism:
2682
Because of Mary's singular cooperation with the action of the Holy Spirit, the Church loves to pray in communion with the Virgin Mary, to magnify with her the great things the Lord has done for her, and to entrust supplications and praises to her. [see Catechism Link]
The prayer that invites us to reflect on the Life of Christ and Contemplate His Love is the Rosary. [see Rosary Link]

I think Roman Catholics hold Mary in more reverence than many other religions. The Bible says she found favor with God, and she is the mother of Jesus. I think other religions misunderstand their feelings for Mary and mistakenly think Catholics worship her.

Some Catholics do, but those that do, do so against the teaching of the Catholic Church. Catholics honor Mary, but worship God alone.

I'm not a catholic but this comes up so much
If you really want to know the answer I do have one I have asked this before and I received a very good explanation.
You have to understand their belief system.
Those that pray to Marry are NOT worshiping her. They know that she can do nothing but they believe she can intercede for them with Jesus and that is why they pray to her
Its like asking for that little extra help.
Kind of like asking your friends Mom to get you Friend to do something is all
There are those that say they prayed to her and were healed by hear but 9 times out 10 that is a miss quote.
IF you do not believe in God or any of this then there is no point in asking
