I want to buy a PS3. I do not have any PS2 or PS1 games so I am not concerned about compatibility. I do have wifi (wireless network) at my house so will I need the 80 just to be able to get on w/ my wireless setup? Are there any other advantages to having the 80gb over the 40gb? I just want to hook it up to my 56" DLP and surround sound, sit in my VRocker game chair and play. Thank you in advance.

When you mention the flash card and media card drives....I have a home network setup with to very updated PCs....they both have lots of card readers, USB ports, etc. Will I ever need to use the ports on my PS3 if I have computers to use? I dont mind paying the extra $$ if it is worth it, but I am about 99% sure I will not play any older PS2 or 1 games. Thanks again for the insight.

Both the 40 and 80 gb have Wi-Fi out of the box. The only major difference between the two is backward compatibility with PS2 games, but it's not important to you so you can skip the 80 gb if you want to save 100 bucks. But just remember that you cannot and will not be able to play any PS2 games on the 40 gb, so you better make sure that you have no plans to play PS2 games on your PS3.
The 80 gb also has 4 USB ports and 3 flash drives, but they're not all that important unless you have a lot of electronics that uses different formats, then it might be important to you when you want to upload pictures, music, etc.
Personally, I would still get the 80 gb even if I have no plans to play PS2 games on it because 1. you never know if you're going to play PS2 games. Right now, you may not want to play PS2 games, but in the future, that can change. God of War is going to be released, and you might want to play the first 2 in case you want to know the full story behind Kratos. The 80 gb also comes with Motorstorm, which is 60 bucks itself, so you're getting 40 extra gb for 40 bucks, which isn't all that bad.
For you, it will probably come down to what you're willing to spend and whether or not you're absolutely sure that you will not be playing PS2 games in the future.

Well the 80gb has the advantages of 4 usb ports over two, it is backwards compatible (but you're not concerned about that), it comes with everything the 40gb does, and I believe it includes an eithernet cable as well, but both models can hook up to the Playsation Network via wireless connection.

ok, the only drawbacks of the 40 gb unit are these- no backward compatibility, only 2 usb ports, no flash card readers. if you don't need any of these things(keep in mind you can't play rock band with only 2 usb ports), then i suppose a 40 gb is ok for you. but I have a 60 gb, and I love having the card readers and I use all of my usb ports. Oh wait! I forgot. you can use a usb hub if you need to. I would still advise saving up the extra money to get an 80 gb, though. the game demos take up alot of space.

Both the 40GB and 80GB PS3's have built in WiFi. And if you aren't concerend about backwards compatbility, then just go witth the 40GB PS3 because it can't play PS2 games, but it can play PS1 games.
The only other advantages of having the 80GB PS3 would be: 2 extra USB ports, Digital Camera Flash Card Slots ( CF, Memory Stick Duo, and SD Memory Cards), and backwards compatibility with both PS1 and PS2 games.
If you need a bigger hard drive in the future, you can always purchase a larger hard drive at any time.
But when it comes to future PS3 sequels like God of War 3, The Getaway 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, Jak and Daxter :The Lost Frontier, and Killzone 2 you wont really understand the story behind the games unless you have played the previous versions that are on the PS2. So in this case, I recommend that you get the 80GB PS3, or just find a used PS2 for around $70 bucks.
