This has been irritating me for a while. You all are always quoting things from the Old Testament. Are you Jewish? The Old Testament only has relevance for Jews.

Do you not know that Jesus said that he came to fulfill the law of Moses? THat means the laws of the Old TEstament are no longer valid. If you remember, Jesus contradicted most of the harsher dogma of the Old Testament.

So, why do you people quote, follow, read, and believe in a set of rules designed for Jews of 2,000 years ago.

If you're Christians, then follow the teachings of JEsus, not a group of borrowed fairy tales from an obscure desert sect of 2,000 years ago.

Although parts of the Old Testament have been done away with when Jesus came down to earth and fulfilled the prophesies, the old testament still has some valuable principles that can still be applied in every day Christian lives. The old testament is also still accepted in our Christian Bibles and is still taught and referred to in church teachings. For example, Jesus quoted many scriptures from the Old Testament to prove that He is the Messiah and that is why the old testament has so much relevance in our Christian lives today. The New Testament is then just like a continuation and completion of what was taught in the Old Testament.

The old testament is a school master to bring us to Christ (Gal. 3:19-29). After Christ came we are under his laws, new testament, the old testament still can be used to help us see how God dealt with sin. We are not bound by it today but what is binding from it is in the new testament already. Jesus changed the old law for the new.

In Matt. 5:17 Jesus said he came to fulfill the old testament law. When he fulfilled it, it was taken out of the way to make room for the new Col.2:14 also the book of Heb. Also many outher scriptures.

God is the God of the Bible = all 66 books. Jesus is God. Jesus is the God of the OT and the NT. Hebrews 10:1 says, "For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near." The letter to the Hebrews explains how Jesus fulfilled the OT. The OT Law still applies in that it is a way for us to know our offenses. If we are Christians, we will not be judged by the Law, but it is good to know the Law so that we do not keep on sinning (as in Romans 5-6 or 1 John 3) and offending God. All Scripture (OT and NT) is inspired by God. Our job is to glorify God and delight in Him. If we know Him by reading all the Bible we can be more equipped to glorify Him and delight in Him.

When Christ came to fulfill the Old Testament...that's pertaining to the prophecies of Him. Now, Christ also came to create a new covenant with His people. The covenant from the Old Testament was one with all the rules from Leviticus and what not.

The new covenant is one that is still based on the rules, but is covered by grace now because God knows that we as humans will never be able to be sinless in life and so a new covenant needed to be made...that covenant was Jesus

Paul who writes the vastmajority of all Christian doctrine says of the Law:

Romans 3:20 ; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET."

Matthew 5:17 "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.

Matthew 5:18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law

That makes pretty good sense. I never could figure out how one could follow both what's said in the old testament and new, since they're pretty darned different!
