i used the same flea collar for my cat when he had fleas. i had no idea it had a chance of being harmful. but this was about 1 year ago, and nothing bad happened to my cat. he is totally fine, and is flea-free!! so i dont think it does any harm. good luck! :)

Yeah, stay away from all Hartz products. Even if you're lucky enough not to have a problem with them, many animals haven't been so lucky - don't support this evil company by buying their products!!
Also don't waste your money on ANY form of flea collar - these really do not work. I'm afraid you do have to spend a certain amount to treat fleas - you can buy cheap stuff from stores if you want, but it won't work. Just pick up some Frontline from a vets, or online it's cheaper but you may not get the genuine product. Just know that storebought flea treatments don't work.

The flea collar will not work for the cat. Put the collar in your vacuum cleaner bag. Any fleas you suck up or eggs that hatch will be killed. The topical flea medications from the vet are the best way to go.

Yes - there is a creme that can be applied to the cat at the back of the head on the neck area where the can cannot get it's paw or wash it. This stuff is expensive but you can be assured that once you use it you will never have fleas on the cat or in the house. It comes from the vet.
Best idea is not let the cat out. Flease and ticks carry disease and parasites that can infect your cat and YOU. Also danger of fighting, getting mauled or killed by dogs, owls, hawks, coyotes and run over by speeding cars. It can get lost, stry or stolen and poisoned by nasty people.
Inside kitty is clean, safe, healthy and makes you a lot happiers because fewer vet bills.

Flea collars really are bad. The only thing that is effective is Frontline Plus or Advantage. It is very effective and works for 30 days. It is cheaper online - try Drs. Foster and Smith - but avoid E-Bay - there are scammers with fake product there. All of the powders, shampoos, sprays, bug bombs, collars and dips are more toxic and not as effective. People recommend baths in Dawn dishwashing soap which is effective for a one-time kill but won't keep the fleas away after the bath and will dry out the cat's coat.
