The imac is a wonderful machine, definitely better than the HP and with a 20" screen is not that expensive.
amazon.com sells CS3 for as cheap as anyone. Although it is only a few dollars less than the Adobe site. If you are in the US, then you can get free shipping from orders placed direct to Amazon.
Amazon does sell products for other companies that do not include free super saver shipping. Make sure you order is from amazon.

CS3 is the same price pretty much anywhere you go. It works better on a Mac, but I run it on a PC with no problems.
If you are a student or you work for a university, you can get about a 60% discount. Otherwise, you are pretty much stuck. Don't fall for anyone who offers it cheap that isn't offering to a student, unless you want to get ripped off. Stay away from ebay and other auction sites, you never know what you are getting.
Your best bet is to go to the source, or to shop around reliable websites. You won't get a great deal, but you might get some decent discounts.
Also, if you are buying CS3, odds are you need it for professional purposes. If not, there are products that are designed for home use that are not nearly as expensive.
