When I know there's a holiday coming up and there's a chance I'll be getting off early, I'm sure to ask my boss, "What are the hours going to be for [insert holiday here]?" a few days in advance. There's really no harm in asking, so I'd say call your boss and get the details. It's pretty slow where I work today as well but I don't get off until 4 :-(

A good way is to say, "Hey, have some running around to do before tonight, just want to know what time we're closing up today?" There is no obligation on his end with this question. He may not even realize it's a holiday so this will allow him to say it's OK to leave by 3 pm.

I've been going around asking the office gossips if they've heard anything, lol. Even though they like to gossip, they're generally correct. :) So far, nobody's heard anything set in stone, so it looks like we're in the same boat. :)

Ask if he/she is planning to dismiss early for the new year's eve holiday. Or ask if it is a regular work day or is it half day.

Call your boss. Tell him that it is dead at work and you were wondering if he had anything extra that you could work on so you aren't just sitting around wasting time. He'll probably just tell you to go on home, but that way, you aren't looking like you are trying to get out of work.

The only choice you have is to stay until you are told you can do otherwise. It is a "dead" time for everyone really. Just sit and know you're getting paid to sit - you'll be glad you stayed come pay day!

It doesn't look bad to want to maximize production hour being wasted because of client cancellations. Trying to look at the bottom line > is a good thing! Hope this helps!

There is nothing wrong with asking!
Just ask someone say I over heard so in so talking about us getting out at 2.. is that true?
Your not going to look bad getting information straight!
Better then staying late and better then booking out early if your suppose to be there!
Just ask!
