Hi- I just sent you a personal email, which be more in detail that this answer- however I have to tell you that faith cannot come from within ourselves or we will lose faith- We have to remember that faith is a gift of God given through His son , Jesus- without that type of faith, our faith is not real, and can be lost easily- read my email and let me know if you would like to continue to communicate. God has not deserted you- I know , I have things in my life that I wish were not there, however God has remained faithful.

If you realize that religion was something the ancient humans invented as a way of comfort, a way to feel less alone, then maybe you will feel better.
Many of the stories in the Bible--Noah and the flood, the creation myth, etc. were taken from earlier mythologies, most notably the Babylonians.
The Bible the Christians use was (ironically) created by the order of King James, a rabid Catholic. The texts were altered to promote the Catholic point of view.
An ancient Hebrew text has no relevence to modern life.
Find happiness in the world around you, and forget about ancient and irrelevant fairy tales.

we all go through this trial. Some call it a desert. It is the time for perseverance, duty and regularity of habits. Do not give up your prayer life, but persevere in it. We cannot become great musicians if we don't do our scales. We cannot become great scientists without study. We cannot sell things if we do not do follow up. We cannot become endurance athletes without a daily run. It is the same with religious practices.
For depression, please check to make sure it is not physiological first. At this time of year, many people suffer from being indoors too much. It does affect your mood.
It looks like you are getting some really good advice from lots of different people. I hope that one of these answers helps you.

The question then becomes, do you do things because they make you happy, or do you do things because they are right?
Don't believe or not believe because one view is happier than the other. Make your choice based on what is accurate.

I'm agnostic but you are going through the same phase as I did.
I had that feeling as if I was wrong about god then I would burn and suffer in helll eternally. I searched around and found out that I am agnostic. You just need that extra push. Try searching around for info. I'm agnostic because I am neither christian nor athiest.
go to www.godisimaginary.com to help you re assure yourself and give you that extra push.

Go out and live your life. The only person who has control over your destiny is you.

Well, if you are into yoga, deepen your practice. Do alot of chest opening poses like backbends (these help with depression). Focus deeply on the spiritual lessons you learn about yourself and others through your yoga practice like succeeding challenges and nurturing yourself... You can still have a deeply spiritual life without a belief in God.

You need to pursue the truth. Many people read the religious text and find them lacking in truth. Get educated and learn how the world and the universe work. Study science and physics and philosophy.
One thing that I find very comforting is that if you look at the science that is available today, it seems as if every living thing on this planet is related by some ancestor. We are all like a huge extended family crowded here together on earth, depending on each other.

I think it depends on what religion you were born into or have been practicing. I was Christian and lost my faith in Jesus. It was a long and painful 2 years because I had nothing to replace my faith with. But I always kept up hope that there was God.
After several years and exploring many different religions I have found a path that works for me. With things that I believe in, it is easier for me to more strongly believe in God. Maybe you just need to find something that works for you.
Of course, all the atheists on this board will probably say good for you, and it's about time you stopped believing in such fiction as God. But for me, I need belief and worship in my life. I am so happy to have found something that works for me.

I think I really believed in God as a living presence in my life for a long time. This, I think, had much to do with my childhood socialization into the church. Gradually I grew away from the church but continued to believe in some kind of God. Now I am pretty sure that I am an agnostic and the question in not (as Buddha said) "fit the case".
