The 3.55 or the 3.73 on the new Ford F250 SD? I don't do a lot of towing, but I do a lot of long distance driving.

I would go with the 3.55 to keep your engine revs down to reduce engine and transmission wear as well as improve fuel economy.

If you were hauling a trailer often, the game would change as the torque would increase. You would want the higher gear ratio of 3.73 to increase rpm and lower torque on the engine and transmission. It also helps a bit with engine braking to better avoid excessive brake wear and fade.

If you don't tow at all and no plans of it, including the price of gas never going down more than .25c in the next million years or so, do a little more drastic and hit the 3.42 or 3.08 gearing. If you are going to take the time and money to buy and install new gearing then why not show yourself some justification in doing so. 3.08 will only keep you in the lower gears a little longer but will cut your top end RPM greatly and especially if your running is on mainly flatland that is the way to go. If you go alot of Mountians then maybe just the 3.42.

If you do not tow, them go with the 3.55. You will get better gas mileage. They will also give you enough torque to tow.

I would go for the gas mileage personally.
