He was born Offero, and took a job as a ferryman. It is said that one day, he bore a small boy on his shoulders across the river, and as they forded the river, the boy became heavier and heavier. Finally, the boy revealed that He was Christ, and that Offero was feeling the weight of the world upon him.

Thereafter, he became known as "Christopher" which means Christ-bearer, and also blends his name with Christ's.

He helped travellers through dangers.

St Christopher is the patron saint of safe travel. His feast day is July 25th exept in grecce where it is celebrated on March 9th.

Travellers, (not the pikey kind) sadly he was 'downgraded' by the Church and I'm not sure if he's even still recognised as a Saint.
