I keep Lil' Smokies (pre-miniaturized smoked sausages) and pre-sliced cheddar cheese in my lunchbag at work. It's a quick and relatively healthy energy boost, and there are enough preservatives in the sausage to have it survive the day in my insulated lunch bag just fine. If you nuke the sausage first, it gets a lot of the fat out, too. Wipe it down before packing and you shouldn't need more than one napkin to get any lingering greasiness off your fingertips.

these days you can't include anything that requires a knife to cut it up, so anything you can break into pieces (like chicken, tuna, meatloaf, any leftovers from the night before) is ok. Just omit the condiments or supply the confiments in those small packets or maybe they can get the condiments (like katsup, mustard, mayo or salad dressing) at school or work. You can give them a shreaded salad plus a piece of fruit. Or you can give them a can of V8 or some package of fruit juice, or some of those cheese and cracker combos, or even something already made in a container they can pop into a microwave. Instead of figuring out what to send with them, personally I'd think it would be money better spent if you first ask them what they like to eat. If it's for yourself there are loads of things in your grocery store, including all kinds of jello, pudding, cupcakes, etc. Remember though that a lot of those things were prepackaged and would cost more even though they are easier to eat, .....but they will add weight, so maybe it's better to eat light.

Yogurt/ gogurt, sandwiches with cold cuts, chewy cookies, chewy granola bars, grapes, and raisins aren't messy and aren't crunchy either.
