Please help me out... even though it will come down to which I like best. Yesterday I sat 3 hours switching back and forth between the Twin Amp and the Bassman, and can't decide. The Bassman has got such personality and such a great warm, mid-range tone, BUT I don't like the bright channel. I find the Twin to be more versatile, and sounds great as well, but I can't get that Bassman tone out of my head. I play country and blues and rock, and I know guitarists use both amps... If I decide to go with the Twin, is there any way to emulate that Bassman sound by tweeking the controls?

Um, neither. The Hot-Rod Deville or the Blues Deville reissue in the 4X10 speaker configuration. Both of these amps were built using the '59 Bassman platform and then adding extras like reverb, channel switching and so on. The Twin is an excellent top-of-the-line amplifier, but from your question, you sound hooked on the Bassman. My reason for not recommending the Bassman is it's very one-dimensional with no reverb or dirty channel. This will cause you to get bored very quickly, and wish you bought the Twin. With either of the DeVille amps, you get the Bassman sound PLUS all the extras.

Hmm, decisions decisions. I'm a bass player so I can only give you what I've heard myself and from other people. It's my understanding that the Bassman is similar in design to early Marshall Plexis which have a killer tone for hard rock music. Think Angus Young. The guys I've played with in country and blues bands would usually use somthing along the line of the Fender Twin or even a Blues Jr. Ultimately it's your tone so you've gotta go with what feels best for you. My suggestion is that the Twin will probably be more appropriate for country and blues if that's what you'll do more of.

With the Bassman you are giving up that warm reverb that the twin has to offer .

You won't get the Bassman sound out of a Twin. And if you don't like the bright channel - there is an easy solution - don't use it.You have already decided that you like the Bassman better and now it seems like you want somebody to talk you out of it.
