You *can* be Airborne (paratrooper) qualified and serve with a front line unit in a support capacity. For example, the 82nd Airborne Division has female soldiers assigned to its rigging unit that gets vehicles and supplies ready for airdrop.

There are also female paratroopers that serve in signals units and other capacities that earn them the respect of their male counter-parts.

You *can* likewise be assigned to say a special warfare unit, but in a technical - intelligence review, planning role.

A woman can also be a fighter pilot and many are serving in Afganistan right now.

As far as the Army goes, you cannot attend Infantry school or serve as an infantryman, a gunner in an artillery unit or other so-called 'combat arms' units. However, while I was assigned to HHB Divarty/ 2nd Infantry Division in Korea just before the Gulf War, we had female soldiers in supply, communications, food service, maintenance and medical support. So, technically they were in just as much danger as any guy was and were required to stand guard duty, respond to alerts - all the things us guys had to do.

As for any comments about the Army having to 'dumb done' their training, as mentioned above, the term is 'dumb down' and this soldier is correcting your mistake. Can't be that stupid.

Don't listen to the relentless spewing of Marines are better than Army or US Seals are better than Green Berets - it is nothing more than pride, youth and inexperience opening its mouth.

Front line combat is out, as it should be. I went scuba diving with a female Marine in Okinawa, one who was very adamant that women should be able to serve in combat roles. When we got out of the water, she had had it and could not climb the staircase at Maidamasaki, so I carried her and all her gear as well as my own, all at the same time. Such a move would get her and all her squad killed PDQ, because the job is so physically demanding as well as mentally stressful. Besides, women create life and nurture it. Asking them to take it is bad news and they are susceptible to forms of torture that do not apply to men. Anything that detracts from the concentration of the men on the mission is not good. Having a woman along would do it.

Complete boot camp for men, would be a good start. Become a Navy SEAL or a Recon Marine, yet another.

The army is where to go if you're looking for equality between the genders. Unfortunatley, the army had to dumb done it's training in order to accomdate women. Obviously, the US has a less effective army than it once did.

Combat arms and those jobs which are unsafe for some reason of another based on the physiology differences between men and women noted above some chemicals can cause spontaneous abortion which s not a problem for a amke but if a femake got pregnant would have to replace her with some one else hurting manpower). The why-Averages would indicate that they are phyically weaker, if not why differing requirements for physical fitness testing between men and women, or in the cases where they aren't you could go back to the change and see a lessening of the male requirements to set requirements both could pass. That is the biggest one and very important to fighting in ground combat. Some women could do exactly as much as a man but on average they do not have the physical strength and stamina of an average male. Why do women golfers tee off closer to the hole, long range track records are kept by sex and females are always the slower times for the same distance so it is not a "military" thing it is a physically thing. If women want equality in everything including serving in combat then the standards should remain where they are and they either meet them or don't; to lower the standards or allow women to do the same job while not meeting the required standards will get people killed and the ego of those people crying about it are not worth the lives it would cost.
