are Christian? Why or why not?

I am Mormon and I belief that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. He suffered pain of death upon the cross and took upon himself the sins of all mankind. Because of his grace and mercy, we too can repent and be made whole. No man can receive salvation ,except in and of Jesus Christ.

I believe that I am Christian. I love Christ and worship him and do all things in his name. Now if others do not think I can Christian, that is their problem. I love Christ and do all I can to serve him. I know that and I know that he knows it.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormonism) is a beautiful Christian religion. Because Mormons believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ and consider Him to be the way to salvation, they are clearly a Christian denomination. It is true that they are not an orthodox denomination (they are neither Protestant, Catholic, nor Eastern Orthodox), because they don't accept the post-New Testament creeds, but their Christ-centered theology clearly qualifies them for the Christian label.

Most objective scholars agree that Mormons are Christian. Consider this quote from an academic book entitled “Anthology of World Scriptures” by Robert E. Van Voorst.

“…the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints…see themselves as Christian, and most experts in comparative religions would view this labeling as basically correct. That they…accept the Christian Bible as their first cannon is a good indicator of this. Moreover, “outsiders” to [Christianity], such as Buddhists, would almost certainly recognize them as belonging to the stream of Christian tradition.”

Likewise, a recent poll showed that the majority of Americans believe that Mormons are Christians.

You should be extremely careful when trying to learn about Mormons from others. There are many who hate the Mormons and spread lies, distortions, and conspiracy theories about them. Others think they understand Mormon doctrine because of "what they've heard," but are actually misinformed.

Because Mormons are Christian, we believe in most of the things that Christians believe, including:

1) Christ is divine and salvation comes only through Him.
2) The Bible is the word of God.
3) Men ought to love one another.

Mormons are a unique branch of Christianity, however. We are neither Catholic nor Protestant, so naturally we have some different beliefs. Most of the differences are minor. One significant difference has to do with the authority to act in God's name. Mormons believe that soon after the death of Christ and His apostles, the early Christian Church was greatly influenced by Greek and Roman philosophies and political pressures. Despite the efforts of many good men and women, the true Church of Christ was eventually lost because of these outside pressures and internal, man-made changes. Mormons believe that God reestablished the original Church of Christ in 1820 through a man named Joseph Smith.

Who cares? Both religions contain basic founding premises that are not supported by evidence.

That depends on what they believe about Jesus Christ.

to be Christian,

Jesus is the son of God
second person of the trinity
has no spirit brothers or sisters
Jesus is God.
sits at the right hand of God
Jesus was begotten not created
died and was resurrected on the third day.
His blood was shed for the remission of sins
His blood was enough to pay the price
was born of the virgin mary.

Do the mormons believe all these things?
If they do, then they would be Christian.

But, my dad was a mormon and I know that is not what they believe about Jesus.

they believe:
Jesus is the son of God YES
second person of the trinity DONT THINK THEY BELIEVE IN THE TRINITY
has no spirit brothers or sisters NO, LUCIFER IS THE BRO OF JESUS
Jesus is God. NO
sits at the right hand of God YES
Jesus was begotten not created NOT SURE
died and was resurrected on the third day. YES
His blood was shed for the remission of sins YES
His blood was enough to pay the price NO, GOTTA DO WORKS
was born of the virgin mary YES

I could have a little wrong, was doing some research on Jehovahs witnesses, and they are ..... I will save it. Anyway, I was getting a little confused, but corrected the most of it anyway now.

If the description of their Jesus doesnt match up with the description of Jesus that is in the Holy bible, then the answer is NO. And that would be no because they would be serving a different Jesus.

Is a mad mormon gonna report my honest answer? Instead of that, why dont you email me or im me and talk to me about it. we could help each other understand better.

Mormons are definitely Christians. They just have a less accepted way of believing. Mormons are generally good people as I suspect most Christians are. I just happen to think that they are misguided, but then, I do not agree with organized religion or any religion for that matter.
The LDS Church (Latter Day Saints) or Mormons accept Jesus Christ as their personal lord and savior; which I understand, is the definition of Christian. There are many variations on that theme. Catholicism was the first Christian church until the Protestants got mad at them and decided to make up their own rules. Since then, every preacher from "Snake Handlers" to Baptists have told their congregations that theirs was the "only true religion", and that all the others were going to Hell.

Joseph Smith, Jr. was the L. Ron Hubbard of his day. Just another example of good intentioned but weak-minded people being promised something for nothing and buying into the delusion. Major part of all religions, I got something you don't have and I'll tell you if you follow me. Would be nice if the human race outgrew this need for a supernatural sugar daddy dictator.

The Mormon's first "prophet" told his followers that "all Christian doctrines and denominations are an abomination." Having said that, the more recent "prophets" are saying they are Christian so people will accept them in the mainstream.

Mormonism, however, is not Christian. Their very precepts are totally opposite to Christianity, even the Mormon Jesus is created, being the brother of Lucifer, while the Biblical Jesus is the creator. See John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word (Christ) and the Word was with God and the Word WAS God."

God bless and happy new year!

Mormons are not Christians because they do not believe in the Jesus Christ of the Bible. They have adopted ideas of who Jesus is from another writing called the book of Mormon, which is another gospel. The Bible says in Galatians 1:6-9, "I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed."
The Mormon gospel is, in their own words, "another gospel" .

Well...actually, the Catholics are richer. As for the Christianity of Mormonism, it depends on who you talk to. The American councils of Christian churches do not let Mormons attend and ask their members to teach congregations that Mormons are not Christians because they do not follow modern Christian Orthodoxy. Jehovah's Witnesses may tell you that no one other than the Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians. Encyclopedias and Secular scholars call Mormons Christians. Mormons declare themselves to be Christians.

By the simple definition of a Christ-following faith, Mormons are indeed Christians; however, within the politics of organized religion, it's anyone's guess.

Excellent question. Yes Mormons do consider themselves Christian, and therefore are just as much Christian as any other denomination.
