A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

There's an awful lot of ignorant garbage that people believe or spread about Jehovah's Witnesses......such as....

- Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in Jesus. (Nothing could be further from the truth. We ARE Christians and Jesus Christ is at the very core of our faith.)

- Jehovah's Witnesses do their preaching work to try and earn their way into heaven. (Nothing could be further from the truth. The Bible clearly spells out that a limited number will be given the heavenly hope. Most Jehovah's Witnesses hold onto the hope from the Bible that this earth will be restored to the paradise it was meant to be, and mankind will be brought back to the perfection that Adam and Eve once enjoyed.)

- Jehovah's Witnesses are a "cult". (Again, it's the ignorant who would say such a thing. In the conventional sense, a cult is led by a human leader, i.e. David Koresh or Jim Jones. Jehovah's Witnesses are led by Christ Jesus, with an earthly governing body representing Christ's "faithful and discreet slave" that provides us with spiritual food at the proper time.)

- Jehovah's Witnesses refuse any and all medical assistance and just want their mates or children to die. (Again, an utterly absurd idea. Jehovah's Witnesses want the best of medical attention possible when it's needed in emergency situations, however faithfulness to the Bible and God's commands regarding blood is paramount. We recognize that all life belongs to Jehovah God. If we (or a family member) should die while adhering to Biblical law on abstaining from blood, we know that the life lost is in the best possible hands, that of our Creator. He can and will restore such faithful ones to life in the coming new system. Why try and save a life in this system run by Satan, in which a person will get sick and die anyway? Obedience to God's law is of utmost importance.)

- Jehovah's Witnesses use their own Bible and twist the scriptures. (Ridiculous. Jehovah's Witnesses speak to people of all faiths who use various Bible translations, including the King James Version. Incidentally, in some of the newer King James Version translations, they will openly admit with a comment in the front that they have replaced the passages in which God's personal name was originally written with the generic "LORD" (in all caps). Also, the King James Version is just that.....the version that King James wanted the people to have, with what he wanted it to say whether or not it was translated accurately, and of course the translators weren't about to argue with the king for fear of losing their lives.)

Those are but a few of the most common misconceptions or just outright lies told about Jehovah's Witnesses.

Lady C if your Catholic religion teaches its ok to curse & curse at other people (since true religion will be recognized by the fruit it produces Matt 7:17-23) then i definately dont want ANY part of that tree. (New born Catholic this is not directed to you, for you do seem to have a sense of reasonableness about you)
Lavender , you are the one that is confused.

We follow and believe in Jesus according to his rules not what man think we should believe and have faith in him about.
for he said him self as he told the woman at the well In John 4:28 You people worship what You do not know.

One misconception Jeremy is that we think that we are part of the 144,000 that are going to heaven so we should stop preaching, the number should be filled by now. anyone in their right mind can do math, there are over 6.5 million Jehovah witnesses of that greater # obviously all 6.5 cant go to heaven nor think they all go to heaven, but have the hope of living in & under the rule of Jesus righteous Kingdom on earth. It cant be that hard to figure out.... Jesus & his 144,000 corulers will be ruling over the ones that will be left over in the earth (Rev:5:10) Matt 5:5, Psalms 37:11, Psalms 37:28,29, 2 Pet 3:13.,Isaiah 65:17-25.

(Psalm a million:a million-6) chuffed is the guy that has no longer walked in the suggestions of the depraved ones, And in the way of sinners has no longer stood, And in the seat of ridiculers has no longer sat.  2 yet his delight is in the regulation of Jehovah, And in his regulation he reads in an undertone day and evening.  3 And he will definitely grow to be like a tree planted with the help of streams of water, that provides its own fruit in its season And the foliage of which does no longer wither, And each little thing he does will prevail.  4 The depraved are in contrast to that, yet are merely like the chaff that the wind drives away.  5 because of the fact of this the depraved ones won't upward thrust up in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of righteous ones.  6 For Jehovah is taking understanding of ways of righteous ones, however the very way of depraved ones will perish. i could be greater beneficial than chuffed to instruct anybody who cares to look that the hot worldwide Translation of the Holy Scriptures is spot on with the unique textual content and instruct you the place the King James differs with many different Bible translation or maybe differs from its until eventually now translation!

Oh, there's so much.

1. That we never get any presents
2. That we're part of a cult
3. That we don't believe in health care
4. That we don't believe in Jesus
5. That we changed the Bible
6. That we're brainwashed
7. That we harm our children
8. That we're anti-government
9. That we won't go to college
10. That we try and FORCE you to change religions

For that last one, I haven't yet been back to a house where someone has said 'I'm not interested'; or they've slammed a door in my face. Then again, I'm only seventeen- I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I haven't been everywhere around the world. But it's not like we hound people.

We don't deserve the treatment we get, even if we've been taught to expect it.

The answers given cover almost all of the spiritual aspects of misunderstanding so, I would like to add some others.

Because we have faith in the unseen that we are ignorant, that we are unschooled, that we can't think or reason beyond knowing whether the sun is shining or not.

As a group, I find the Witnesses to be among the most well informed people. If someone can't read and wants to learn, they'll be taught. Our publications have a wealth of just general information about our world.

Many witnesses learn one or more extra languages to be able to converse with those who don't speak their native language.

The other misconception is that we go to their doors to irritate them, wake them up, interrupt their football games are just cause them problems. We do it motivated out of love for them and our desire to obey God's commands. To me it's like throwing a drowning man a life ring. He could get aggravated cause I'm throwing things at him or he could grab it and live, but it's always their choice.

as you see many who are apostates still rather slander Jehovah Witnesses. they say we are brainwashed, if Jehovah washed my brain, good so I can worship him better. that we are a cult. a cult worships man. we worship Jehovah God. that we don't believe in Jesus Christ. we have this beautiful book about The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived about the life of Jesus Christ. we do what Jesus commanded us at Matthew 28 verse 19 and 20. that we don't have parties and give gifts. we don't wait for a pagan holiday to give gifts to each other. there are many more things that apostates and people who know nothing about us will say. lady c. you sure have a dirty mouth. is that what they teach you in church

The biggest misconception is that many feel we don't believe in Jesus!
We do! We know that without Jesus' sacrifice, there would be no salvation for mankind.
We KNOW that Jesus is the Son of GOD JEHOVAH and is not God himself......John17:1-3 Jesus spoke these things, and raising his eyes to heaven, he said "Father, the hour has come, glorify YOUR SON, that your son may glorify you." 2. "according as you have given him authority over all flesh, that as regards the whole number whom YOU have given him..he may give them EVERLASTING LIFE. 3. "This means everlasting life, their taking in the knowlege of YOU, The ONLY TRUE GOD, and the one whom you sent forth Jesus Christ."

I was raised a JW and when I was in high school I had a friend ask me if we had arranged marriages! She had been told that because she never saw me "going with" any boys at school and someone told her that was the reason. I was getting weird stuff like that all the time.

Oh yeah, and the whole "you don't believe in Jesus" thing. Of course they do!
