Committing an offense is not a mistake, it is a criminal violation.

Making a mistake in law enforcment can, and will, occur. We are only human. That's not a criminal violation, unless the officer intentionally committed a criminal act.

When a person commits a crime, it is done with intent, or extreme negligence or reckless disregard. A mistake is something one does because of an error in judgment, or because of inattention to detail. If I'm balancing my checkbook, and I transpose a check amount from $28 to $82, I didn't intend to write down the incorrect amount. Consequently, I won't be able to reconcile my checkbook because of a "mistake." When the postman puts a piece of my neighbor's mail in my mailbox, he didn't do it so I could spend some quality time with my neighbor while giving him his mail. The postman made a mistake due to inattention. When some dirt-bag breaks into my car by popping my driver's window so he can take my stereo system, he didn't do it because God told him I wanted to look at a hole in my dash instead of listening to my stereo. No, he did it because he's the scum-sucking, lazy, worst imitation of a human being, and he wanted to deprive me of property I paid for with my hard-earned money.

Yeahhhhh, No...I don't think I understand your question.
If you are referring to errors during an arrest, No, the det. Will suffer the pains of having evidence thrown out. If you are making refference to making mistakes as in breaking the law...No, IF he is seen to commit a crime he will be liable for the crime.
But on the other hand if you are referring to a criminal making an error in the commision of his crime, he gets a lot of 'forgiveness' for those 'errors'. Example: Dork #1 robs a bank, and shoots someone, jumps in his P.O.C. car and runs red lights and runs people off the road and hits some guys ride befoer he is arrested. Charges: Armed Robbery and Shooting with intent...All the other crap is 'forgiven' as lessor offenses.

And remember, there may be a few bad cops, But there are NO Good criminals.

so true...

A cop in Guthrie Oklahoma was put in charge of patrolling the High Scool to prevent perverts, drug dealers, etc from preying on the students when he began an affair with a female student that resulted in sex. Her mom finally turned them in, and he was arrested, NOT jailed (OR bond for his personal safety so he didn't have to be lokced up with the inmated he helped incarcerate) and then serntenced to PROBATION. Tis guy would've been an average Joe, he would've gone to jail and gotten raped and tortured.

I wanna be a cop, just so if I ever screw up I won't go to jail....

YES AND A NO CAN BE GIVEN:
HISTORY LESSON FOR FOR QUESTION?

TO BECOME A CRIMINAL, CON, MEANS YOU ARE A CONVICT, WHICH MEANS YOU ARE NOT A CON ARTIST YOU ARE CONVICTED OF AN OFFENSE AND GOT CAUGHT.
USUALLY TO GET TO THIS STAGE IT TAKES A VERY LONG PROCESS(UNLESS YOU A MAJOR DEALER) WHICH CONSISTS OF MULTIPLE ARRESTS AT THE COUNTY AND CITY LEVELS AS A JUV AND THEN AN ADULT AND THEN 3X AND YOUR OUT.
MOST CRIMINAL I HAVE KNOW FOR OVER 42 YEARS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED OVER 10-20 TIMES BEFORE GOING TO THE BIG HOUSE. SOME PEOPLE NEVER LEARN DRUGS ARE THEIR DOWN FALL, THEY MAKE GOOD MONEY SELLING THEM AND DO NOT REALIZE THAT WHEN THEY FALL ALL THAT MONEY IS GOING TO BE SPENT WHILE THEY DO TIME. SO WHAT DID THEY MAKE, $500,000 A YEAR AND BUSTED FOR 40 YEARS? ABOUT $10,000 A YEAR OVER ALL. CRIME DOES NOT PAY. BUT SOME PEOPLE NEVER LEARN? THOSE ARE THE ONES WE KEEP. ONCE OUT THEY ARE A MARKED PERSON TO LAW ENFORCEMENT TO SEE THEY STAY ON THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW PATH. MOST CANNOT AND FAIL AGAIN AND AGAIN OVER AND OVER. ALL THEY TALK ABOUT IN THE PRISON IS WHEN THEY GET OUT THEY GONNA KILL WHO EVER GETS IN THERE WAY? WHERE IS THIS SO CALLED REHABILITATION MODEL AND PROTECTING SOCIETY?

Yes that is true. However, I'm sure that the % of criminals getting busted breaking their first law is very low. Most of them get away with crimes for years before they are caught.

Very true, and since the vast majority of criminals are not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, the deck is really stacked against them... Refraining from criminal activities is really a good idea..

There are many bad cops out there but rarely if ever will you see one being charged. Same with the rest of the so-called legal system. The prosecutor from the Duke boys is a great example. That man spent one night in jail for trying to ruin 4 families.Nifong should have gotten the needle for trying to do this!!!!!
