If someone esle gets the computer, would you have the right to ask for it back?

I'd ASK before just taking it.
If you don't ASK and just take it, you are stealing and the ones who had it in the first place have every right to take it back.

only if it had a sign on it stating 'free' or 'please take' or something like that, maybe they are just cleaning out their house and set it out there temporarily

I wouldn't consider it trash unless you put a note on it saying "FREE", "TRASH" or something like that.
It's still yours, if it wasn't out for grabs, so yes. Ask for it back.

No,....I wouldn't consider it trash unless it was out on the curb. Knock on their door and ask if their intention is to throw it out, and if so, ask if you could take it.

Is it where they normally would set their trash out? If not, no way. But I wouldn't take it anyway and if I even considered it I would knock and ask.
