How can I talk to my eye doctor about possibly getting contacts?

I had them once, but my prescription is too thick for them to possibly fit comfortably and not scratch my cornea so I couldn't wear them. How should I bring up the conversation?

I'd be surprised. Normally you can get a higher Rx in contacts than can be easily done in glasses.
I think -24.00 and +16.00 are the highest powers I've made in contacts.

Tight eyelids and other features of the eye can make contact fittng tricky. but sheer Rx power shouldn't be limiting.

If it's been some time since you tried them, the obvious icebreaker question is "Anything new in contact lenses?"

(How about Synergeyes: hard lenses with a soft skirt?
I'm not saying they'd be right for you, but they could easily start a conversation!)

well i highly doubt your perscription changed.. so i would say that you still couldnt ware them...BUT, if you want to see again if you could.. go to the eye doctor and tell him that you want contacts... say, " Can I try contacts?" its as simple as that... he'll say ," sure" or he might say," no, you cant because your perscription is too bad" BUT, you never know, its worth a shot...! so my advise is to just go for it! he could say yes!

When you go in to see your doctor just tell him that you want a prescription for contact lenses. It is very easy to do. When I went in my doctor did the exam for glasses and wrote out a prescription for glasses and contacts.
