Mormon.org only gives you basic information and lds.org goes way beyond basic beliefs and you can find almost anything on there.

I, however, would suggest jefflindsay.com when you're looking for information. It talks about common misconceptions about the church, tells the truth of what we believe, and in some situations gives scientific/archological evidence for lds beliefs.

The name of the church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a long title. Mormon compiled the Book of Mormon (600 BC) so members were often refered to as Mormons. LDS is a shortening of Latter Day Saints. mormon.org and lds.org are the same. familyhistory.org is another, If you are interested in genealogy
