I would like to travel in March, but I need to get a passport. If I would send the paperwork, fee and my picture in by the end of this week/beginning of next week, would that be enough time? I know there were major delays last year... anyone know how long it would take?

I do not currently have a passport. This is a new application, not a renewal. Thanks!

(I assume you're American?)
Because of the attempts to enact the new border regulations, there is a huuuuuuge backlog in processed applications, a backlogue of many months, last I knew. Getting it by March could be very iffy.

It should as the standard time is taking 6 weeks. But it can depend on where you are living as some areas it is longer than others (especially on the West coast). If you really want it quickly then pay the extra for expedited and it will be there in around 2 weeks.

I applied for a new passport for my daugther, and it took about six weeks. If you mail it in this week, you will probably get it just in time for your March trip.

If you want to be safe, then pay for the Expidited Service.

The process is still not very fast. I believe it is something like 60 days unless you pay for expedited service.

I got mine a couple of years ago (at an overseas embassy) and paid for the expedited service and had it in hand in less than a week.
