Tramadol is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic. That makes it a narcotic. It has abuse and addiction potential just as other opioids.

Another example of a centrally acting synthetic opioid is methadone.

No Tramadol is not a narcotic. It acts like one but isn't one. It's synthetic. Tramadol when taken as prescribed give you the same effect of 10% of Morphine for your dose. That means 50mg Tramadol is about the same effectiveness as 5mg Morphine. Good Luck
