My husband has really bad breath almost all the time, his gums bleed when he brushes, he wakes up every morning with reddish-brownish stuff on his teeth and his mouth stinks. His nose is always runny (all year round - not sure if this has anything to do with it). He had a metal brace fitted at the back of his teeth 12 years ago - i'm not sure if that has caused the problem. He uses strong paste and mouthwash regularly but still the symptoms persist. Any idea what is going on and what can be done? He has seen as oral hygienist and all she did was clean his teeth and told him how to look after them! Its so hard to find a proper dentist that will do their job - any advice will be helpful. Many thanks!

Get him a sonic toothbrush. The best you can afford.

Also, look into getting something called a Waterpic. It's a device that squirts water between the teeth and also cleans and stimulates the gums.

No matter how strong the paste - it won't work properly unless the toothbrush is effective. The sonic ones are fantastic and really give you a deep clean. It's like visiting the hygienist every day.......top it off with the waterpic and he'll be much better.

I hope you manage to resolve the situation. Remember that strong coffee and spicy foods will also contribute towards a bad breath. Make sure he drinks lots of water as dehydration can do the same thing.

Good Luck ♥

Get a quart bottle of HYDROGEN PEROXIDE. It bubbles the infection or contamination out of your gums and teeth and any medical devices. It is extremely healing and once you heal the gums the odors go away. With his problems he should do it morning and night brushing and swishing. He will get better very quickly.

You can get it at the drug store for only $1.00 a quart.
ODORS COME FROM SICK GUMS AND TEETH. The really serious problem is that disease in the gums travels the veins to the heart and can actually infect his heart.

My Dentist gave me this to use 42 years ago and while I do not have great teeth, but I have Very Healthy gums. Thanks to using Hydrogen Peroxide.

Good Luck.

My uncle had a similar problem, but he didn't even know his breath smelled, so it was hard to get him to the dentist.

But, once we did.... they did a gum scraping. Sounds horrible, huh? Yes, it was.... They take a sharp edge and dig between the gums and teeth. This removes dead/diseased gum tissue, and created bloody/scabby gum edges. When the gums heal, though, they attach back to the teeth in a healthy way, and the periodontal disease is gone.

He would also need a fantastic cleaning (prior) perhaps the removal of his bridge/brace, even if just for the treatment time, and any cavities to be filled or capped, and dead teeth pulled (which may mean a bridge)

My sister, on the other hand, who had 3 babies 3 years in a row which sucked all the calcium out of her teeth and most of them seriously decayed... decided it would be easier to just have them all pulled and she got dentures at 33 years old. Her mouth is very healthy now.

Dentures may be the way to go. He would likely be much happier with the health of his mouth.

Good luck!

He should consult with an oral surgeon. This is way above a hygienist's expertise. The Dr. will examine him thoroughly and may script him a compound. Good luck.

If he has Gum Disease a deep clean by a Dentist may prolong the inevitable, but I am afraid the teeth are coming out. Forget all the advertised mouthwashes and potions, I tried them all.
Implants vary from £1500 to £2000 each.
I have been a regular visitor to my Dentist and Hygienist for over 50 years
