Why are earth would anyone with half a brain, and ANY love for their child, send them to Jesus Camp?
If my understanding is correct, she 'brainwashes' them, and turns them into militants. Why would a parent who is supposed to care for, and love their child, subject them to this kind of insanity?
For what purpose?
Is there a long term goal?
I really want to know, so will you please help me understand this fad, or should it be called mania?

A lot of parents send their kids because they themselves went and I guess they enjoyed it and wanted their kids to experience the same. Some also send their kids for a spiritual cleansing if they show unchristian like behaviors at home. Then there are some who just send them for the heck of it cause it sounds like a good idea.
I had a friend who was forced to go because she had been drinking and thought she might be bisexual. Her parents were really mad about the drinking and probably would have let that slide with a severe grounding but she felt sorry for herself and told them she thought she was bi. They sent her to a 4 week stint in jesus camp and she was never the same afterward.

I have no clue why anyone would send a child to "Jesus Camp" except that it's a militant form of indoctrination that literally brainwashes children into believing and conforming. Christianity isn't about conforming and no one should be brainwashed or forced. True belief of ANY religion ought to be through choice and true, genuine belief. Things like this so-called Jesus Camp truly sadden me, and represent such a small sect of Christianity. It's too bad, because such a miniscule percentage makes the news and makes all Christians look like fanatics trying to brainswash our children and that's far from reality.

I agree that such camps are less than desirable but overriding that I also acknowledge that all have a freedom of choice regarding how to raise their children and the belief structure they wish to use. The only question is: So such camps border upon emotional abuse of the child? A case may be made for this but I suspect you would have great difficulty in pursuing such an approach, as ultimately belief is recognized as choice.
Personally, as the father of 6 children who are now 13 to 22 years old I have encouraged them to think and to discuss all issues. We have had lengthy discussions on philosophy, theology, spirituality etc and I encourage them to participate in any community group, be they secular or religious, of THEIR choice. I very much understand that spiritual discovery is a journey and rigid dogma at an impressionable age is not going to help them find their direction. I much prefer to have given my own children the tools to make choices.

Well unfortunately it's not a fad. It's the culmination of generations of fear and ignorance. Most of the people featured in Jesus Camp believe we are in the end times. They are brainwashing kids as young as 5 years old to get ready to kill for Christ. The logic is that Islam is doing this so we need to counter them in the exact same way. The parents are the ones who are delusioned in the movie, the kids are innocent. They are only told what to believe, the parents are to blame here.
But yes if you listen to the dialogue very clearly they refer very often to the kids to be ready to kill for Christ. That they are the generation that will spawn the End Times, the key in God's plan. What is the difference between these types and terrorists? Pretty much perspective, that's about it. There are no real differences, these kids are ready to suicide bomb an Anti-Christian building as well. And unfortunately probably will end up doing just that in the future. I saw that as an obvious agenda and final outcome for that type of logic.
*the film "Jesus Camp" is new, this is not the traditional sing-song Bible Camps of the past that some are referring to. This is an Evangelical Christian movement in the USA, right now. Growing in numbers daily, you need to see that movie.
