Are we allowed to eat shellfish? It depends on which Jews you're referring to. Whether or not any Jew eats shellfish is a personal choice. Torah-observant (i.e. religious) Jews choose not to eat shellfish because it is strictly prohibited by the Jewish dietary laws. Shellfish is not "kosher" ("kosher" = "fit" according to the dietary code, called "kashrut" from the same linguistic root).

For more information on kashrut, check out the following: http://www.jewfaq.org/kashrut.htm

I hope you find this information helpful.

No we are not allowed to eat shellfish, because in the book of Genesis G-d says we are only allowed to eat fish which have fins and scales.

No. According to the Torah, only creatures from the sea (water-breathers) that have both fins and scales are permitted to be eaten. Shell fish have neither.
