It is said theat he fled to Europe during the Viet Nam war along with Bill Clinton and Terry Bradshaw. Why do we make these people heros when the real ones 59,000 them actually died in Viet Nam. Many of these young men did not want to be there but they answered the call because it was the law.

adeptus asartes: Scwartznegger plays a fictional charactor in a fictional story. Sly Stalone plays a real living human hero in a real war. There actually was a Viet nam soldier killed in action with the last name Rambo and you can look it up on the Viet Nam vet virtual wall. Sly Stalone made his fortune on the deaths of 59,000 Viet Nam heros and has yet to give one penny to their families for their loss. Sly Stalone is a coward. Arnold is not much better and went awol from the Austrian army.

Navy sailor gal: I never said he was a bad actor sweetie only a worthless human being for running out on his country. Where are you liberals now that I am talking compassion and doing the right thing. I just do not think he should be honored for being a draft dodger and then protray a real life hero.

drkt: You and Sly both have no honor.

upthcreek: no one is advocating the draft come back slick and I think it was a bad thing also that allowed Sly Stalone and :Slick Willie Clinton to evade it while the less fortunate had to give up their freedom and some their lives. I am just asking how you mindless people can honor a coward like stalone without ever asking a question.

delected one: Pal I was drafted in 68 and the military took anything that breathed as long as you could hold rifle upright. Stalone is a coward so face it. There actually was a John Rambo killed in Viet Nam that Sly and his scumbag directors did not think to check out before depicting Sly as a killing machine. As far as I know Sly has never told the family of John Rambo or his widow he was sorry or made any attempts to support Viet Nam vet or their medial problems or agendas.

puppet dictator: I was wondering when i would here about the Duke pal. Okay, John was 32 when WW11 broke out and he kept saying he was going to jump into the fray and never did , your are correct and it did disappoint me when i found this. I went through infantry training at Tigerland Ft. Polk when I was 19 and it was brutal nearly wasted me and I scored near the top of my training class. John Wayne did much for the war effort and i tell you what he put a little bravery into each of us young draftee when we went to Viet Nam. Sure it was BS but John was there with us walking point always keeping his chin up. I still love the guy.

conrange: read the put down of the Duke by puppet dictator. I was 19 when i was drafted and humped a rucksack through the boonies. John was 32 during the start of WW11 and i am not sure even the Duke could have handled it. John Wayne loved the military and did much for its vets.

Delected one: Yea sure sly had a stroke, a stroke of good luck in coaching a girls volleyball or soccer ? team in Switzerland. He is a coward who is making his living off the backs of Viet Nam war dead and he is a real scumbag.

Robert S: read the comments pal, apparently i struck a nerve with you on this issue. Go visita national military cemetary and get down on your knees and pray for these men and women it will make you feel better. Go pay your $8.00 for the next Rambo movie if you wish and see this coward because the men in the cemetary gave you this freedom.

The character in the book was total fiction!

Stallone was working as a P.T. Instructor in a Swiss school during the Vietnam War.

Bruce Springsteen managed to dodge the draft as well as a few other now famous people.

But its all water under the bridge as the war was over in 1974

Sylvester Stallone Draft Dodger

Any time anyone tries to stay out of a war they are doing the right thing. He didn't chicken out, He used his brain and didn't get caught in the fiasco that killed hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese and Americans. The hostilities in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia claimed the lives of more than 58,000 Americans. Another 304,000 were wounded. No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now. --Richard M. Nixon, 1985 If even the President was confused who are we to put forward statements like they were cast in stone. The vast majority of people in Vietnam were not even alive during the war. Isn't it about time you got over it? And nobody gives a crap about Sly Stalone anyway!

Stalone was draft eligible for about nine years (1964-73) - do you have evidence that his number was called? He also likely had student deferments (government policy at the time). Lots of things are "it is said" - doesn't make them true.

I've never seen anything about Bradshaw "fleeing" to Europe. He was drafted by the NFL in 1970 - why wasn't he drafted upon finishing college? For that matter, why wasn't the majority of the NFL, MLB and NBA drafted in that era?

Does Sly Stalone really matter, anyway? He's just an actor. It wasn't that long ago that actors were considered disreputable people that you didn't want in your town for very long.

Why does someone always bring up ancient history like this, This post is as bad as the one about the draft that comes up several times a day. It has been done to death so it is time for all TROLLs to come up with something new, if they are capable doing that. This also is just a for them to back-door a post on the DRAFT (which is not going to happen in our life time).

Vet-USAF

First off > > why ASK the same question over and over and over?? Just look in the answers search and see what others have asked and replied...Slick you just don't see the point. He is an actor and so what all the draft dodgers were give amnesty. Get over it it is old news.

I have never heard that Stallone was a draft dodger. Or Terry Bradshaw for that matter. Just challenge sly to a fight and have done if you feel that strongly about the matter.

As far as I am concerned, Stallone cannot act. I can't understand a thing he says anyway.

Sly Stalone as you call him was not eligible to join/ be drafted into the Military because when he was a child he suffered a stroke and the military can not medical allow someone who has suffered a stroke into the military. Personnel that get a stroke while in the military are medically discharge form service.

Who cares? In retrospect, dodging the draft was probably a wise thing to do, otherwise we wouldn't have Demolition man or Judge Dredd. LOL
