When my father abandoned the family, I realized how important dads were to the family unit. I could see how my opinion and disappointment of him shaded my opinion of ALL men. I saw how hard my mother had to work to support the family and how much effort she made to not cheat us out of time with her because she had to work all the time to keep us off welfare.

These lessons taught me to be highly selective in choosing a mate for life. That hard work was important, but so is free time. If you don't make the effort to stay connected to people, then they won't stay connected to you.

When I had to have my gall bladder out last summer. I was 33 and married with 3 kids but there is still something about being in pain and being miserable that makes you want your mommy and daddy. Sounds stupid but its true. My hubby tried to take care of me but I just wanted him focused on the kids and I just wanted my mom to come take care of me.

Having an Uncle die, made me realize that my parents may not be far behind.
They have been very supportive to me, and I didn't realize how old they were getting. I have made a effort to be there for them, not just now but in the past as well.
I thank the Lord that they are still active seniors.
