$1.75 per gallon in the USA? No way!! You have a typo in your question dear.
Here in the USA, gas is averaging $3.21 per gallon. I live in the North East (NY State) and we are paying $3.17 per gallon right now.

Quiting prices is a bit misleading. When I pay my taxes via fuel costs, and there are 60 cents a litre of tax, that is tax not price of fuel.
Canadian tax stripped of tax are based on the same cost of crude as found accross the border.
As I see it, it makes little difference whether I pay my tax via the fuel pump, other than for the option I have to avoid going to the pump.

For Seattle, it's about $3.05/gallon average. You can find it for $2.99/gallon in a few places like Costco and I saw one place a bit out there that had it for $2.97 last week, but I'd say around $3.05-$3.10 is average in the area.
