Hello there,
My cats hate being touched on the belly too, I dont know why but we all have something we dont like, I think quite alot of cats dont like this, my cat has no problem with being stroked on the back or tail.
Hope this helped, feel free to email me any time.
Kindest regards,
Amanda.

We had a Manx female that was like that. Some cats do like it while others don't. From what I have learned it depends on the cat.. just rub their head and under the chin that was what mine that hated that did

i've read its to do with trust... you might find if they lie on you with there tummy exposed they may suddenly lash out for no reason, i think lots of cats feel vunerable. But this is only what i've read.
I have two cats now that both love having there tummy rubbed, but we had a cat a while back who was a rescue cat and hated having his belly touched you couldnt get near it... so i guess that backs up the above theory, but there will be many cases that will disagree with it.
It could just be as many other people here have suggested that it is just that they dont like it, and that other cats do... i dont think anyone really knows for sure, it just depends on the cat.

My experience has been that most cats don't care for being touched on the stomach. This seems most common when they're laying down - many cats will curl up like a possum and tear your hand to shreds if you try to give them a belly rub!
Why I don't know. I assume they're similar to dogs in that presenting their bellys puts them in a vulnerable position. Or perhaps their bellys are just very sensitive and can only take so much petting.
Or perhaps it's just because they're cats.
My Poppy actually loves belly rubs.
As for the back, I haven't seen that same behavior in any of mine. They do have muscle flinches and sometimes start licking themselves when you're near the base of the tail, but I don't know if that's their way of objecting....

my cat don't like to be touched on the belly either it will scratsh me if i do and if i touch her near the end of her back near her tail, that's her erogenous zone, they will like it too some extend and after a little while they get too wired up over it and get nasty on you.
it's a normal behavior for cats

Varies from cat to cat. Just like people animals have certain areas they don't like being touched. Cats don't usually like their belly rubbed, but there are exceptions to the rule. I once had a cat that didn't like her tail touched but loved her belly rubbed. I would suggest not petting your cat where they don't like it, it will just upset them even more and may not like you petting them at all in the future.
