with the feast of the circumcision almost upon us i thought i'd ask a question which used to bother me all those years ago when i was a roman catholic.

how come jesus had eight foreskins?

It's a gross pagan tradition that intertwined itself with early Christianity.

It's not part of the accepted Canon and frankly quite bizarre!

Nobody has ever (to my knowledge) counted how many foreskins of Jesus were sold in the Middle Ages. There were more than eight, that is sure. There is a town in Italy who accuses the Vatican of stealing their original one.
There is however a historian who as tried to count how many teeth of Jesus were sold and bought in France during the Middle Ages: Alonso de Valdes. He counted slightly over 500.
Heads of John the Baptist are estimated at between 32 and 50.
Some Middle Ages churches claimed they had a sample of semen of Jesus.

Edit: may I add here that this is of course a reflection of the fact that the Curch in the Middle ages was much less prudish than many of the 19th century historian tried to tell us.
For the people with serious historical interest, there is a list of sexually active Popes in wikipedia.
