Nope. Tax deductions can only be made from registered charitable organizations... freecycle unfortunately isnt one.

Not normally, with freecycle you are usually giving your item to a particular person, and that is never deductible. The responder who said if you give the item to a member organization that is 501(c)3, you could take a deduction subject to the other rules for deductions, is correct.

Great program though, isn't it?

Only if you donate to a non profit organization.
Some freecycle groups do have non profits as members so this is possible but if you simply offer something and another person accepts it then the answer is no you cannot claim it as a tax deduction. If you do give it to a non profit through freecycle you will need to get a receipt just as you would if you took it to their non profit office.
