The halo or aura often depicted above or around Christ. What is the etymology of this.
I know etymology is not the correct word, but its defines the essence of the idea I’m after.

Hello

The Halo is a depiction of the Crown Chakra, when well developed it can be seen as a halo.

Jesus did not actually have a visible aura about Him. Often though, artists favor portraying Jesus' Divine nature by putting an aura around His image.

The halo comes from early Iconography eastern Orthodox have kept with the early style. it is not suposed to represnt reality as you would see it rather to comunicate a message. The halo is not supposed to be s ring like it is in western depections rather the Holy indiviidual is symbolicaly radiaiting the Love of God so an Aura would be a good description but it is simply an to convey Christ was the light of the world or that an individual is a saint.

Don't think so. But I believe he had a "presence" about himself, if you know what I mean. People were drawn to him by his words and actions.

TRANSFIGURATION OF CHRIST

Hi, friend! You got it on the icons...! Transfiguration of Christ.

The light aura around Christ is his "energy of absolute"...his nature of God. Take a look at the icon of "Metamorphosys" or "Transfiguration".

http://www.goarch.org/en/special/listen_learn_share/transfiguration/images/Transfig.jpg

English language: Transfiguration.
Greek language: Metamorphosys or Metamorphosis.

Its the icon where Christ is showing his nature of the God. Jesus Christ is "a man and God perfectly in one"...thats what the old orthodox church..as Greek, Russian, Serbian church...etc... are believing about Christ.

"In the narrative, after the cloud dissipates, Elijah and Moses disappear, and Jesus and the three Apostles head down the mountain, Jesus telling his Apostles to keep the event a secret until the "Son of Man" had risen from the dead."(Mark 9:9-10)

That lightness is not symbolic, its reality of God. That lightness was real and transfguration is real historical event.

Some holy fathers of orthodox church are also seeing this lightness...today. They believe its a energy of Holy Trinity, Lord Jesus Christ him self.

Theres a lot of examples in Serbia, Russia and Greece...specialy on Athos in Greece. Its the miracle, but its the true.

Google it!
