I am wondering if B-52 Bombers have been deployed in Australia
during the 70's or 80's. Maybe I am confusing this with USAF F-111's. Or maybe nothing was deployed at all. Perhaps flights came in from Guam. Anyway if any knowledge please let me know. Thanks.

I think this question is now answered to my satisfaction based on Australian Federal Government Hansard @ http://parlinfoweb.aph.gov.au/piweb//view_document.aspx?TABLE=HANSARDR&ID=272434

Thank you all for your answers. Perhaps I misunderstood the difference between deployment and staging in my question as obviously (in hindsight) B-52's have been landed at Darwin Air Base from 1981 onwards.

No.

B-52's have never been deployed to Australia, they would have no reason to.

B-52's use only bases in the UK and Spain for operations in the middle east.

For operations in Asia, Africa (and the middle east again) they use the British bases on Ascension Island (South Atlantic - and the most remote military outpost in the world) or the joint RAF / USAF base on the British island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

It is possible that some B-52s out of Anderson Air Base in Guam were deployed to Australia to get away from a typhoon heading for Guam. I think the Richmond Air Station outside Sydney has a large enough strip for them to land there. In the 1970s I recall them landing at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan for that purpose. The closest tactical launch point to Australia for those bombers would have been Diego Garcia Island in the Indian Ocean.
