I'm in Canada, and don't know about how things run in the states (or even which rental companies are there) but I will answer as I know to be the case here as I would suspect that it's similar.

Here, they will charge you extra if you're under 25 if they will rent to you at all. As well, if you dont have your own car, but are a secondary driver on, say, your mom's insurance and that insurance package is what is deemed as "transferable" then you can use that, but the problem is that your mom cannot use her car while you are using the rental. If one or the other of you gets into an accident while you have the rental in your possession, then the insurance is deemed void and you are in for a world of hurt. Therefore you MUST get their insurance at about the $25-30/day mark.

The only company I know up here that is even remotely reasonable with the circumstance you described is called Enterprise. They have weekend deals that normally will end up costing you about $200/weekend. The cost jumps if you are renting mid week, but sometimes they will play with the dates a little if you pick it up on Thurs instead of Fri - you will have to specifically ask them to do so though.

Finally, DO NOT follow the advise that someone gave with regard to getting someone who trusts you to get the car for you. IF you get in an accident and even if it's not your fault, you will be held accountable for fraud as you are not the (insured) driver on the agreement. In fact, you might be in trouble for Grand Theft Auto depending on the circumstance - mainly because you are not authorized on the rental agreement to be in possession of that vehicle and therefore will be seen as having stolen it under the eyes of the law. Big time issues!!!

The last thing that might give you trouble is that a lot of companies have more sticky guidelines if you are going out of province/state. So make sure you ask about that too.

Hi. I think the age limit for renting a car is 25 in order to avoid fees. There probably isn't much you can do to avoid the under $25 fee. In terms of renting a car, you need a valid drivers license, a valid credit card, and a clean driving record. One word of advice! Before you turn the car in, be sure to fill up the tank. If you don't, you will get hit big time money wise to have the rental agency fill the car!

Call every car rental place you can find in your phone book until you find one without a surcharge or other penalty for u-25. They don't all dance to the same tune.

Sorry unless you get full coverage from your insurer the rate reflects the damage that silly teens cause rental car companies each year....not you, cause your not like them.....but still you are under 25......when does she turn 25?

Car dealers rent cars. Sometimes it's just to it's customers who bring one in for long repairs, sometimes it's to anyone.

PAY the price you will be protected for everything under the sun, and if you rent , just do it and have fun you can make up what you spent for rental later but do it" and learn how to do it on you'r own , this way you owe no one.
Happy new Year, and haPPY Trail's to you.

Nope, they seriously stick it to you if you're a youngun renting a car. If possible, see if you could get a 25+ friend to rent the car, or see if a local car rental company might be willing to cut you a deal.

As far as I know you have to have a major credit card and be over 25. You can try calling around and maybe if you take their "extra" insurance they will allow you to rent. Good Luck
