I doubt it, they were just a pair of ill informed gits who had an affinity with nazism.
Although it has been suggested that if hitler invaded england the duke would have been turned into some sort of puppet monarch.

I think there was no malice in it - they were just visiting ........ if you look at the royal family at that time they were alot of german relatives ..... I think being so high profile there career as a spy might have been difficult!

most of the Royal family were German and had friends and family in Germany. 80% of the establishment actualy loved national socialism and admired what Hitler had done for Germany. we had thousands of students studying in Germany at the time. and there were thousands of German students studying over here. in that time Britain and Germany were very much in a socialy entwined dance. go get some books out and have a read on the era. its realy quite facinating.

The entire British Royal family has family ties to Germany thru Queen Victoria. The Duke of Windsor was an upper class twit and social snob who found the democratic process in British government tiresome, so he was a Nazi sympathizer. That is why his brother, the King, saw to it that he spent WW 2 as Governor general of the Bahamas. The Duchess (Wallace Warfield Simpson ultimate social climber) was just as snobby so she went along. After all she was almost Consort to the King-Emperor of the British Empire.

it was a secret plot to overthrow the monarchy when the germans invaded and took over the island. i'm kidding of course. i could venture a guess and say that they were trying to avoid a coming war.

The Duke and Duchess of Windsor were pro Nazi. I really doubt that they were spies, and they probably didn't know at that time how evil Hitler was.
