Logically I'd want to say you'd have to first be a member of a U.N. member nations military and you'd be chosen from there. However, since I don't know for sure I thought I'd ask around.

It would be very hard to do in the US. The current political climate would not support any US troops going on Un missions and joining another countries military can cause you to lose your citizenship.

You have answered your own question.

The U.N. asks member Nations for Military Personnel to serve on a specific peacekeeping mission.

That country in turn posts a notification amongst its military units in the Routine Order of the Day, detailing the specific type of units and people required, also stating that volunteers are required for a Peacekeeping mission in " X " place.

Units take the names of the volunteers, single soldiers preferably, get them medically examined, then they are formed up first in platoons from their battalions, they in turn are formed into a company in the respective Commands, finally the companies are brought together for training as a specific Battalion.

Then they are flown overseas to start their U.N. Mission, in the particular country of the mission, the UN contributing countries are given a specific area to control.

For Derrick *, if you are not from Pakistan then you cant join their military and become a U.N. Peace-keeper, you have to be in your own countries military and they have to be volunteering to serve as U.N. Peacekeepers.

And its not judged by size of the contributions, the Irish Republic have one of the largest U.N. Peace-keeping service records in the world. As they are not a N.A.T.O member.

It's not something you can apply for, you have to be a soldier in one of the countries that volunteers soldiers for any said mission. If I remember correctly, Pakistan donates the largest amount of troops to the UN, so your largest chance of getting to be a peacekeeper would be to join the Army in Pakistan.
