This is the link to a book called Photographer's Market 2008. It's annually published. A lot of people don't know about these books, but they are available for writers and illustrators too.

What this book does is list every known source of publisher, magazine, etc. who purchases photographs. Then it tells you the readership, the average pay, the type of photograph they solicit, purchase, etc. All of the particulars. Who to send your work to, the name of the contact person, etc.

So if you want to be a professional photographer, this book will help you actually find the people who might buy your work. Good luck.

I do believe if you have a dream, pursue it. You will automatically get a lot of negative feedback from people, but if you work at your craft and learn as much as you can, listen to critiques, and practice, and persevere when the going gets tough, you will succeed. And you will find the people who will positively help you achieve your goal.

What a cute dog!

Your images are snapshots and a beginning. Get yourself some books on beginning photography. Learn about technique, settings and what they do, and composition. "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson is a great learning tool. Learn to see light where ever you go. Pay attention to how it changes throughout the day. Study works of good photographers in books and magazines like National Geographic. Sunscribe to a photography magazine like Outdoor Photographer or Popular Photography, they have great how to articles and tips for beginner to intermediate level. Study your camera manual to get the most from the equipment you have. Take some classes or join a photography club if you can to get quality feedback.

One question, why post pictures you admit have "bad quality"? I agree, you posted a couple of "clunkers", so edit those from your "portfolio". Only show your best work, or at least images that you think are pretty good. The bad quality stuff is what the delete button is for.

You can be a professional with some study, hard work and effort on your part. I do believe some people have an innate grasp of composition (the "eye") but I also believe it can be learned. Good luck in your future.

Of course you can, but you are probably going to have to take a course or two first.

BTW I love your cuddlepuppy !

Your photos are ok. Photography classes will definitely help you develop your abilities and prepare you for a possible career.

IMO the Sony A100 and A700 DSLR cameras are good choices. They are 10mp and 12mp respectively, both have dust removal for the sensor, both have Anti-Shake (the Minolta version of Image Stabilization*) in the camera body and both accept every Minolta Maxxum A-mount auto focus lens made since 1985. Plus a lot of the Maxxum accessories can be used.

Since the A700 is the newest, expect to pay more. You can read a review of it in the Jan. 2008 issue of Shutterbug magazine or on-line at shutterbug.com.

* Sony bought the Minolta DSLR line in 2006 when Konica-Minolta quit the camera business. A sad day for an old Minoltaphile like me.

I don't know if you are ready. If you are passionate about photography then you can take courses and learn about it. A photographer sees art and potential in everything. There are different views one uses when taking photos, the angle etc. Sony is a good camera choice. Get a digital camera for starters.

Nice photographs, varied subjects. You could take photo's for magazines. I don't know the business, just what I like. I like your photographs.
There are colleges and specialty schools that specialize in photography. I have a daughter that is a nurse and she has been wanting to go into photography.
