The media hype has left a stigma on the Uninversal style Jeeps for a long time with roll-over scares and stability issues especially on pavement.

What are your experiences?

I have a Wrangler, (my 3rd in 30 years), and I've never had a problem! But, you better show some restraint/respect to these as they do have the possible roll over issue. But so do all vehicles if handled inproperly! I take road trips, and use it for off road w/o any issues!!

i've owned two cj-7 and 1 cherokee, all lifted 6 inches. never had a problem on or off the road with roll-overs. but then again, there are people that can roll a honda civic on a dry highway...

My 7 has 10" lift with 35" tires and never had an issue while driving On Road, even when I've some 190HP on it.

I had an 89 YJ lifted 2.5 inches. 31X10.50
Never an issue with rollover. Thought I was going head over heels once. I did not happen so I climbed the wall again.

That 60 minutes piece in the 80's was the death of the cj-5 and was a bunch of BS. Plenty of Jeeps before and after are as safe as anything on the road. The CJ 5 was narrower which means you couldnt do a lot of hard road manuevering in them, which they are not designed to do anyway. The are Jeeps not road hugging machines. Anyone with any sense will not have any trouble in a Jeep. I have wheeled the mojave in an old Willy's felt safe and driven the autobahn for years in my 2001 Wrangler no problem except it wasnt fast enough Don't believe the hype folks Jeep is just as safe as anything on the road the only thing that makes them unsafe is the same as any other vehicle the people driving them. Check out this piece I found....

I saw one at the junkyard last Friday that had been smashed badly in the front and side, going over the top. Airbag was deployed. The very heavy roll bar was bent slightly, but obviously saved someone's life. Made me think...this Jeep was probably alot safer than many other cars out there.
I believe this Jeep would have sustained less damage to its occupants than many other cars in a roll-over as well.
Only weak spot may be the doors, but if you WERE rolling over, you would be wearing you seatbelts, right?

I feel more safe in my wrangler than in any other vehicle. i've only had mine for about a year, i'm only 18. I have a 2005 unlimited.

one time i was going too fast and i had to make a pretty sharp turn and my jeep actually slid sideways on dry pavement. it didn't rollover. another time i was driving my chevy s10 and i was acting stupid. i passed my friend doing about 65 on a double yellow. then i came to a turn and when i tried turning my right tires came off the ground. when i jerked the wheel to the left the tires came back down, but i spun around a few times, barely missing a sign. we had a fun time getting the 2wd 4-banger out of the ditch.

2 Wranglers & 1 Cherokee in 13 years, no problems. Don't make sharp turns too fast, don't jerk the steering wheel.

it all depends on if you know what your doing. if you have driven nothing but lifted jeeps and you have the expierience then you wont have any problems. i havent had any problems. i believe it was 97 they gave the jeep a wider stance which lowered the roll over rate. i say test drive one. but when your higher up you feel alot safer.
