The only person you will ever change is yourself. As somebody once said, "Just say no" and don't be rude. Hopefully others will learn by example, but even if they don't, you will know that you have done what's right.

Wow, that's a really good question!
I think the best way for us to become less rude is by being kinder to one another. Show respect. One of the other answerers said to say "please", "thank you", "yes sir/mam", "no sir/mam".
Those are all very good suggestions, but you could also hold a door open for a stranger, let someone with less items than you at the grocery store go ahead of you, or just smile at someone. The smallest thing could really brighten someone's day and in return they'll probably do the same thing to someone else. It would be like the movie 'Pay It Forward'.
I think the most important thing to remember though is to have a positive attitude.
I hope this helps! Have a safe and happy new year!! â¥

By living by example. Try and take the time out and examine what is making you so rude? Do you look down on people who work in service jobs/certain professions? If so why don't you take a walk in their shoes for a day and see how it feels. If you are in a hurry, take the time out and really think about what would really happen if your just a few minutes late. Don't be so tense and anxious.
Hold the door open for people and ALWAYS say thank you when someone holds the door open for you. Make sure you treat those who work in service jobs with respect, its a rough world out there and people like to abuse people they deem "lesser" than them. Make sure you hand money/change to a cashier never slide it or fling it. Always wave thank you when someone lets you turn in on the road and someone lets you cross the street (driver).
These little things improve society as a whole. And foremost, say "please", "excuse me", and "thank you". Those three phrases are essential.

We can't do a thing. YOU can do a whole heck of a lot. Show kindness and respect to everyone you encounter and go out of your way to be polite, This may even start an epidemic in your little corner of the world. Society is rude and getting worse by the day, but you can refuse to be a part of this trend.

The most important feat that you need to achieve to stop being rude is to consider everybody to be on the same level/platform.
Dont think yourself to be better or above others, you shouldnt think yourself to be below either.
Be sweet and courteous to people who serve you, remember, they are helping you but are not on your payroll to order.
Especially in restaurants I have seen various people being rude to waiters, Smile while corresponding with them, dont be loud and thank them for their service. It helps both ways, makes them feel better as someone treats them well, and you feel good about making others feel good.
Try not to create a scene in public, its very rude.
At airports if your flight is delayed dont go screaming at the desk clerks, they have no hand in your flight being delayed.
Dont flinch from using sorry, thank you and please. it doesnt make you a smaller person, regardless of who you are saying it to.
The list obviously can go on and on but every person needs to learn and be courteous and polite in their own way.

"how do you stop being rude?"
I think the best answer to that would be...to treat other people around you everyday how you would want to be treated. If people stopped and thought a moment and put themselves in someone's shoes....they would be much more respectful and think of someone other than themself.

What I do is try to imagine how I would feel if what I was doing or saying so rudely was done to me. If I think it would hurt me, I try to stop or not do it at all. Good Luck & Blessings

For the most part, I'm with you. Sadly, Most people don't realize how rude they are or just don't care, it would be hard to stop society from being rude.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; THEN will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
