How do you make the color purple, a deep purple, violet, using tempura paint? How much red do you use versus how much blue?

I hope you mean tempera. Tempura is a Japanese fried fish and batter dish:

Not that I don't believe there isn't some food paint I just suspect a typo. ;-)

Mix 50- 50 red and blue. Ad specs of white (a few at a time) to liven it up a little as it can turn out almost 'midnight black'. Real bright purple comes from a tube.

Here is a tempera color wheel:

Start with blue. Add red until you see the desired shade. If your not sure on how much red to add, start with 5-10 Tablespoons (use an old measuring spoon or buy one specifically to measure the paint with).

Why start with blue? It's a lighter color & you'll need less red to get your desired shade. If you start with red, you'll have to add almost a whole bottle of blue to it to get the color you want.

Make sure to use plain blue & red, not Red Robin, Cardinal Red, Ocean Blue, Light Blue, etc. You want plain old basic red & blue to use for your mixture.

just use your sensitivity
if the shade of purple is bluer, add more blue :P
add it little by little so you don't overdo it
purple with more red tends to be more fuchsia-like, and purple with more blue tends to be more indigo/violet-like
if you want a true purple, use exactly the same amounts.. measure it out!
