Most people I know are surprised to learn that I am an Atheist. In fact, they usually think that I am "very" Christian (as they put it) because of how I live my life. Seriously, do you think you could pick an Atheist out of a crowd, if you could talk to them without bringing up religion or God, etc.?

Robert, it actually is a serious question. Do you have any idea how many times I have heard Christians say that they can always recognize an Atheists? Do you know how many times I have heard them say they wouldn't socialize with an Atheist? "Several" is the answer to both of those questions. That is what led me to ask this question. :)

Actually, Trina, I don't try of "pick" anyone out of a crowd. I like to discover who people are as I get to know them. I am passionately devoted to Jesus Christ; He means everything to me in this life. Even so, I wouldn't want to label you and "shove you in a box" marked atheist.
I've met horrid people claiming to be Christians and wonderful people of all kinds of groups. More than anything else, what I really want is to communicate with other people. Life can be very lonely at times. I value people and interaction. I don't want to raise more barriers between me and other people, I truly want to melt down obstacles and walls. I would so appreciate just being able to share ideas without agendas! Wouldn't that be so cool. I'm probably being too idealistic, but I've learned there is so much more than just getting my ideas expressed and/or validated. There are unique people to meet and experience.

Not a serious question but I will answer with my opinion. I believe it would be easy to pick an "Atheist" out of a crowd. Majority of people in a crowd would either call themselves "Christians" or something else like "Catholic", "Pentacostal", ect. But they all are people of the bible, so we will use the term "Christian" to make it easier on myself. Now lets define "Atheist". (Look at sources) Now Im not trying to be mean but most "Christians I know or have met do not follow the Bible. Well they think they do but they actually don't. Alchohol, Pork, Adultry common way of life for a "Christian." What I am trying to get at would be that if you claim to really believe in God and in your heart you fear God as he asks you too, then you would live according to the Bible. So at the end of the day a "Christian" is an "Atheist." Thus picking one out of a crowd might not be as hard as you think. (This is just my opinion of course)

By default most people will assume that people are religious. If people think that you are a christian because you lead a certain type a life, is nothing. You can lead a relative decent life and be a satanist.
Besides I could careless what you are. Just don't generalize me and I won't generalize you. Deal?
Edit:
And yet why when christians stand up for themselves or don't take any hsit, some people will say "You can't be a christian (you are suppose to let me walk all over you)" ?

I can certainly see a difference about a being that lives and dwells in God, the energy of light and love.
I can certainly see and feel a being that is living in despair and separate from all-that-is.
I do not know the meaning of an atheist, it is a word, which means something to people who use it. I do not use it, abuse it, or entertain it.
When I talk to someone, much is revealed that they are not aware of. To truly listen and hear people, one will know that all beings live fear-ful lives, living from mind, worried, concerned, racking through the head, looking backwards, forwards, hardly ever living this moment, where truth dwells.
If you know, you know, and wisdom is not proud, brash or boasting.
Bright blessings to you all.
Happy New Year, and may it be so.

No. I have a handful of friends that are Atheists, and you can't tell unless you bring up the subject of religion. I know this is off-subject, but I can't stand when people think of Atheists as bad people... because they're not. There's absoutley no truth in that whatsoever. :)
But no.. I don't think I can pick an Atheist out of a crowd.

People often think the same thing about me, even on here. I've gotten e-mails assuming that I am a Christian, but that is probably due to my username. +D
I think a lot of Christians equate a morally decent lifestyle with their faith and don't understand that atheists are completely capable of having morals and ethics that often trump any Christians (mostly because they lead good lives for its own sake, not out of fear or desire for a reward at the end).

No, I don't think you can tell from looking who is an atheist and who is a believer.
Sometimes, if you listen to an atheists beliefs, it seems almost like atheism has a theology, a doctrine. And some are so fervent, you get the feeling they're proseletyzing. But that's another topic.
No. I can't tell by looking.

People are People and no one goes around wearing pro-atheists shirts, so no, as long as atheists can work to benefit other men (which many deeply "religious" have always had a hard time doing) then they have every right to be in "the crowd".

Actually yes, most atheists i know(myself included) hate crowds, so if we are ever part of one we will probably be in the periphery.
I have the theory that going to mass actually builds up tolerance to crowds.
