I have hip pain which is continuing to become more severe. It was only my right hip that was giving out on me, but now my left one gave out. I literally had to crawl up the stairs in my house tonight. I'm worried because I have a one year old daughter that I carry up and down the stairs and don't want it to give out. I have also had trouble sleeping from the aching in my hip joints for about a year, which of course gets worse when it is cold. I am 28 and yes I am overweight. I know the most obvious and beneficial thing is to lose weight, but that is going to be a long term goal. Should I be more concerned? Should I speak to my doctor about this? Any kind of leg, thigh, or hip exercises I can do? I am so worried because I have read that some hip damage is irreversible. Damn, I'm scared. I'm to young.

Ok totally in the same boat as you. Im 28, don't have a child however, and am over weight. The number one thing I recommend is massage therapy.
Some exercises that I have found that stretch out the right places are.

standing up, cross your feet and bend to the side.

sitting down, put your left foot up onto your right knee sit up straight and push down on your left knee, tilt your pelvis forward.
And a better version of that is put your right leg up onto the bed, knee facing outward, tilt your pelvis forward and feel the stretch!!

or sit on the floor with your knees bent and soles of feet together. Pull your feet as close into you as you can and lean forward.

Pilates is wonderful as well for strengthening your muscles. I found a DVD that came with a band it is wonderful!

Hope these help a little

My Rottie is almost seven and has a limp once in awhile. I give him Glucosamine Chondrotine I bought from my Vet. You cannot give people medications. Also the vet prescribed an anti-inflammatory for him but also told me that it can affect his liver. She said that if I find he needs the anti-inflammatory more than 2x per week he would need a liver panel. Luckily he has only taken it 3 times since October 2006. The Glucosamine Chondrotine seems to keep him very comfortable most times. Keep in mind Rotts do have issues with Joints and it is even more likely if the dog is overweight. After mine lost some extra pounds he also improved. Other issues are Rotts are prone to bone cancer. Regardless how you look at your situation and your Rotts condition you cannot play a guessing game he must be seen by a professional

i would be very scared too, you have a young one that you need to keep up with. first off and most obvious, you need to lose some weight, no way around that. secondary, start eating foods that contain omega 3 fatty acids think salmon, flax seed and other good sources. strength training should include side leg rises and don't forget to stretch muscles. I am a huge runner and my hips always kill me and it is always my fault i need to stretch. keep positive and realize the body repairs itself just take care of you and then you can take care of your baby.

You really should see a doctor, imo. He might have some easy remedies for you, so you have an easier life, or you might have a more serious condition that should be treated. Some conditions are really inexpensive and easy to treat.
My best wishes to you!

You should definitely consult your physician both about the weight thing and about the pain issue. Don't let all this go on and on. It will not get better by itself.
