I attended a Kung-Fu club meeting out of curiosity. They were practicing some butterfly kicks and other flash kicks.I asked if they sparred at all, and they said no. I asked why, the guy said he knew a Death Touch or something and could kill someone, why would he spar.

That pretty much caused me to leave.

Anyone else have lame experiences with MA organizations, whether it be a school, seminar, or club

have a look on the sites of the umbrella organisations to find reputable clubs (british kung-fu association etc)-seems you found a bad one. i wouldn't entertain any club that did not endorse sparring-if only light sparring.

i would be very wary of any instructor who came out with the remark that one did-can you imagine your kids being taught the "death touch" and trying it out on granny on christmas day!!!. i would have no qualms on knocking out an attacker but theres no question of me actually killing him-"death touches" are the realm of the movies-and best left there.

i would not allow such an individual to even enter my school let alone teach vulnerable youngsters/people. i know kung-fu practitioners of many years experience who would be horrified if they thought this were going on.

more importantly don't let it put you off on would be the most rewarding journey of your life.

god bless.

that death touch he was talkin about was the HIV, you were wise to leave. If a school doesnt spar I wouldnt stay either since thats the only way to get used to actually applying the techniques taught.

I hope that guy went home and touched himself..lol

anybody is conscious God is into Judo Christian roots. His suitable pass became turn the different cheek, and poor Abel paid for it along with his existence. God is a poor Sensi, and could desire to have blended some Brazillian Jujitsy in with the JudoChristian strikes, that way Abel could have became the different cheek, ducked and leg swept Cain, putting him right into a noplata, dislocating his farmers elbow.

Nice cop out answers to why they dont spar
death touches and surprise technique .

What a bunch of bullshit.IF the SIFU were to introduce sparring on a regular basis half the chicken **** students would run for the hills and never come back. The reason they train there in the 1st place is because there is no sparring.

If someone is commited to kicking your *** you better get your hands up as the only one who is going to get surprised is you when you find bullshit and self delusion doesn't work very well.

MOO
drink milk and go to a real studio not one that we all know is not exactly real. Today that is all mostly a line of BS. The real reason alot of KF's do not spar is simple. The approach was suprise, that was the way taught to impliment the style. Not as a hands up, as you are trying to promote. Some self defense techs are exactly that, not offensive. So when you go to a real KF school, they should say that they do not spar as they teach an approach of suprise.
AND AS FOR EFFECTIVENESS, WELL THOSE Arts that many demote are the forerunners of what your bragging on. As all things progress, so if you like cars look at an ole model T and know it is a car. And if you like MA's look at Kung Fu and know it is the father to MMA>
