I am from Chihuahua, but you guys from that part of the world are known, among other things, your expertise in dog breeding, hence the question. I'm from Juarez, Chihuahua, just from across the border with El Paso, Texas.

Well, as Wisdomst pointed out, there is always something new one can learn.
Thanks to all of you, you sure set me straight, but, alas, there has to be a best answer after all.
Allow me to say that most answers satisfied my doubt.
Happy new year, and thank you all.

' First seen in the US towards the end of the 19th century it is thought likely the breed derives its name from the Mexican state of 'Chihuahua' where it is possible it originated. Every breed historian endeavours to find the true story behind their favourite. Some believe the Chihuahua was used for food. Others say that the Mexicans kept these tiny canines in the belief they would guide the souls of the dead to a state of everlasting bliss. They believed too that the Chihuahua could transfer sickness to another person. Montezuma trusted the foresight of his Chihuahua and built an ark when he said a flood was coming; did these dogs guard the treasure left by an Aztec King? Were they really a race of wild dogs scavenging in the mountains? Alas we can never be sure just grateful that these charming little pets are able to give so much pleasure. Two varieties exist; the Smoothcoated and the Longcoated. The original Smoothcoated Chihuahua was crossed with Yorkshire Terriers and Papillons to produce the Longcoated variety. AS A PET The Longcoated Chihuahua is exactly the same as the Smoothcoated Chihuahua apart from the coat. The smallest of the breeds in the Toy Group the Chihuahua can become very protective of its owner and family and not frightened to warn them in a vocal manner when strangers approach. Once friendships are made visitors will always be remembered. Over protective behaviour and or snappiness should not be encouraged. It is unfortunate to find that some owners feel it is amusing to see a tiny Chihuahua lunging at a dog many times its own size when if the roles were reversed there would be a catastrophe. When living as a member of a family group from puppy-hood this tiny dog will enjoy the company of children of all ages and be anxious to join in their games. However it should be remembered that the little dog should not be regarded as a toy. A tiny Chihuahua dropped from the arms of a small child could be injured. Chihuahuas thrive as singletons or in the company of others and as they are so easy to transport are ideal companions and house pets for persons of all ages and circumstances. While they will enjoy long walks they are just as happy to have the freedom of home and garden. The distinctive large ears on the 'apple shaped' domed skull together with the large eyes and the saucy smiling expression quite rightly appeal to many. They shed their hair in the normal manner but grooming is quick and easy with a dog of this size. A supply of clean bedding on at least a weekly basis will help to keep the coat clean plus regular bathing. Regular attention should be paid to dental hygiene and toenails should be cut regularly. Ears should also be checked weekly to ensure that they are clean, veterinary advice should be sought concerning how best to care for them. Currently the little Chihuahua is finding favour with many of the media stars of the present day. A Chihuahua is the main character in the classic children's book 'A Dog So Small' by Phillipa Pearce. The smallest of dogs, the Chihuahua originated in Mexico several hundred years ago. These dogs had a religious significance, their remains have been found in human gravesites. It was said that certain colors were considered sacred while others were used in sacrifices when their master died. The Chihuahua makes a wonderful pet for someone who has a lot of time and love to give. They are extremely devoted and affectionate to their owners. They are relatively easy to care for needing only weekly brushing and occasional baths. This breed is considered high-strung in that they are very sensitive to changes in their routine. They don't like strangers or being left alone. Generally they are not a good breed for children, they are in danger of being injured by a boisterous child. They can get all the exercise they need indoors, great care should be taken if they are outside in cold or warm weather. '

The Chihuahua originates from Mexico and has been around for about a century. The breed is actually named after the Mexican state where it was first introduced, and there are various legends surrounding this dog. Some think that the Chihuahua was the sacred dog of the Aztecs and others think that the breed may have existed in ancient Egypt. The breed was registered by the American Kennel Club in 1904.

Sometimes it's just the P.R. For example, Australian Shepherds don't come from Australia either.
