Whenever mother and child no longer wish to continue. Putting an age will be unfair as different children will reach that limit at different times.

The AAP and WHO both agree that it is healthy and natural to continue breastfeeding for 3 years and beyond.

I stopped with my daughter around 15 months. She sort of weaned herself too. It was a mutual agreement. She's almost 3 and remembers breastfeeding because she'll still ask for it on occasion. I offer it to her (there's no more milk anymore) but she usually tries and walks away. I'm pregnant with #2 and will try to breastfeed for at least a year again and maybe longer depending on what my son decides. I don't know if I could do it past 18 months but my mind could change. I used to think it was odd for women to breastfeed past a year until I did.

I agree with iamhis0
Extended breastfeeding[breastfeeding past the 'usual' age'] is healthy. I dont think I could ever do this,.. I imagine I will want my breasts back eventually, but some women breastfeed for many years. I think the oldest breastfeeding child I have heard of is 8 though. It comes with benefits like increased IQ, and bonding. Children will start to wean themselves when they are ready. I would google extended breastfeeding if you want more information.

I'd say whenever they want to, but (if I was a mum) I would like it if they stopped before the age of 6. If they felt the need to come back to it later on, then fine.... but not in public!

Probably 2 or 3. WHO recommends breastfeeding until 2 so that seems like a good age.

The answer is when the baby and mother are ready to stop. Interestingly, in some African tribes, it is not unusual to see walking 5 year olds still not weened. The gereral rule is, though, when the baby can eat from the table it should. Most husbands would like to see that happen as soon as possible (and most mothers too, I'd imagine.)

Yeah, 3 is probably right. Some cultures go longer, but I don't think that would work in the West. The longest any of mine went was until 2 1/2.

That is really up to the mother. I breast fed my little girl until she was 20 months. I believe that the La leche club recomends it unitl their 2.

I refused to breastfeed or take breast milk when I was 9 monthes old, my mom said just one day i refused and I wouldnt take it again.
They usually say between 1 and 2 years, some say 3 years. I think after a year it should be expressed and put in a sippy cup though.
