Does it really matter?

Thousands of gods have been called "God" but that in no way interferes with our worship of the one true God of Abraham.

Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, who is God the Son, and therefore can be addressed as the Mother of God.

This is similar to a commoner who marries a king and becomes the mother of the next king. She is entitled to the title Queen and Mother of the King even though she is not royalty or divine.

This is even modeled in the Scriptures. King Solomon's mother Bathsheba had a throne to the right of Solomon. See 1 Kings 2:19.

Nobody two hundred, five hundred or a thousand years ago would have been confused about these terms.

But this is hard for people to understand in these times where royalty and kings and queens are few and far between.

With love in Christ.

Yes, it just so happens that the Queen of Heaven is a Roman title used in antiquity for the Ancient Egyptian goddess, Isis.

I never knew they called Mary that.
Hera is the Queen of Heaven and always has been. Well, since the war anyway. But the Heaven they mean isn't the place you go where you die (Persephone is Queen there) but the sky. Other traditions have had other Queens of the Heaven. Isis, possibly Nuit...

Yes - Astarte (Jer 7:18). And Jupiter was called Father by the (pagan) Greeks. And (pagan) Greek philosophers wrote about the demi-God Logos. The Persian King Cyrus was called, among other things 'the Prince of Peace'. A Protestant church somewhere in Canada - United, I think - had a feminist study group called 'Cakes for the Queen of Heaven' and they sure weren't Catholic.

All the ancient errors have been corrected by the revelation of God in Christ. We know who rules in heaven, and who God is.

It is the title given to all of the Mother Goddesses in Pagan faiths. Examples are Isis (also called the Holy Spirit and part of the Egyptian Trinity) and Innana or Ishtar (also called the Virgin Mother).

Isis holds that title.
Isis had cults as far north as Great Britian. When the RCC was converting they realized that most pagans were't going to let go of thier mother figure, it was just too big a part of thier faith. The adopted Mary as that figure as she was the mother of Jesus, the mother of God andin a way, Queen of Heaven. :)

Isis (or Asset in Egyptian) was called Queen of Heaven.

There are many titles, dates, holidays, etc. that have been carried over from one tradition to another. Not really a big deal. It's all good.

I never once heard of Mary as the Queen of Heaven. She was just Jesus' earthly mother.

Mary was given that title by the Catholic Church. It's not in the Bible anywhere. I read a book that showed where the Catholic Church got a lot of its traditions from pagan rituals.

Yes I believe it was the goddess Diana which also had hundreds of differant names thoughout the ages and now it is Mary they have attached this title to. How sad. God hated that then and He hates it now. He never changes. He is the same yesurday, today and forever.
