Hugs and belly rubs? Sounds like a fine way to treat a pet..
next time, tell your boyfriend you will leave him in the backyard and tell him it's ok, hes a guy, he'll be fine. Snicker.

Well to tell you the truth, when my Rat Terrier was a puppy I treated her like a baby too. It's a common reaction around puppies, but I don't think that you should be so concerned about him, puppies can get into a lot of trouble, but they can handle themselves. Your boyfriend might not appreciate that you're so concerned about the puppy that you're not paying attention to him.

OH YEA!! im totally attached to my dog! im so attached that yea i call him my son and when i first got him i would drive him everywhere i went! and it didnt help me at all with trying not to think of him as a child because my "baby" can actually smile!(hes a poodle) and pretty much everything he does reminds me of a human and i love him so much that when i was in high school it went so far as that i would get ready for school, take forever to get ready*of course*but as much as i loved him and as long as it took for me to get ready, when i was halfway out the door and had only one thing left to do before i left, which was say goodbye to my baby, and in that little second when i say it, thats all it would take to give up on everything i just did. i actually would NOT got to school because of the look on his face that day and the fact that he didnt have a "babysitter" to take care of him, especially since we had other dogs that didnt like him cuz he was spoiled!!

Yes, I adore my 20 month old Boxer the same way! I call him "son" sometimes too! I don't have children, so why not! Probably your bf is just jealous of your affection and attention paid to the dog... tell him to get over it!

There's a fine line you really have to be careful not to cross on this subject.
Dogs are very like children and the same rules apply regardless of whether they are working dogs or precious pets.
The day you bring one home regardless of age your life has got to change to accomodate the dog just like with a baby.
They need exercise, discipline and love, socialization and care has got to go into keeping them safe and comfortable. Then the given of food, water, shelter and shade.Dogs are living beings. They deserve to be treated with respect and consideration just as we do because they have wants and needs and feelings too.
I am very attached to my dogs. They are a part of our family and we spoil them to no end BUT they have their place. I make certain their needs are met before my own or anyone elses so I can concentrate on other things.Make sure before you leave your dog you've met all it's needs.Take it for a 30 minute brisk walk before you leave it making sure it goes potty and leave it with toys it can interact with while you're gone so it does not get bored.Puppy proof your house by keeping everything picked up you want to keep and taping electrical cords to the walls.Leave it with fresh water and it'll be too tired from it's walk to do much but sleep and if not then you did not walk it long enough.

Yes, I'm attached to my dogs (one is a 2 lb chihuahua ). My chihuahua is sooooo adorable and very tiny. Everyone knows where she is at all times, we are always watching where we step, so as not to injure her. She is just 10 months old and very spunky. Our dogs love to have their tummies rubbed. They love to watch t.v. with us. We are very much attached to them.

Absolutely, I tell people my dog, Trixie, is my soul mate. I even got her name tattooed on to my wrist. I don't know what I would do without her. She's my best friend, I got her more gifts for Christmas then anyone else. Your dog is lucky to have such a dedicated and loving owner =)

I love my dogs like my children. They are better than some kids I know they never throw tantrums and tell you how much they don't like you or yell because you didn't buy them a toy, lol. I know a lot of people say they are just dogs but to me they are my children, that's just MY opinion.
