Content protection and encryption schemes. Good digital media interfaces have been available for years (see firewire, mandated on cable set top boxes, yet almost always switched off), with high definition versions available, and nobody wants to support them - at least none of the big studios.
The music industry has been busy shooting itself in both feet, suing customers and claiming we have no right to copy our own songs onto our computers after we have bought them, disagreeing with an apparently settled point (settled in the US courts, no less) of the fair use doctrine.
Nobody has come up with a scheme that I'd want to pay for, so they are trying to get congress to mandate copy protection schemes. Until this is resolved, wireless high definition schemes are going nowhere.

High Definition Television is really a hot topic... you should advice them to buy an HDTV because the government is mandating a national switch to digital signal on Feb. 17, 2009
