Many answerers on this site say that sexual orientation is a choice.
Do you remember when you decided to be a heterosexual?
And if you didn't choose to be a heterosexual, then what do you think caused it: did something happen to you to make you heterosexual, or do you think it's genetic?

Itsayswhat2008,
Are you saying that when people get raped they think, "Gee, that was fun. I think I'll switch orientations to seek out more partners the same gender as my rapist."
An interesting, if counterintuitive hypothesis. Is there a shred of evidence to confirm this, or did you just make it up?

deanr610,
Not necessarily. Look up the concept of "kin selection"

As user "j h" pointed out from it's heterosexist perspective, "being straight is default, but sometimes people choose to stray from the standard".
When bigots say "sexuality is chosen", they don't really mean it.

I was in Foster care from 2 - 7 years old. There was an older girl who lived up the block who I now know was an aggressive lesbo and always tried to get me to be one too. I never went for it and I was the perfect target for becoming one... But I never did. Being heterosexual was never a choice. It simply was. I know from experience, homosexuality it is not environmental. That's all I really can say I know for sure. The rest is dicey.

Touche'! lol
Fortunately, I'm not one of those fundies who thinks that sexuality is a choice. I think (and there is scientific evidence to back up the idea) that people are born gay or straight. Either way, though, I'm not going to look down on someone's lifestyle just because I don't agree with it. I say, as long as you aren't hurting people, do what makes you happy.
Besides, if I were one of those types, I would have missed out on some great friendships (most of my best friends are gay/lesbian)...... I'm a f*g hag, lol.

Yes it is chosen! And because it's chosen they will reap the consequences of the lake of fire in which God will toss them!
IF they didn't choose it, then it must have been that they did too many drugs as teenagers, or that they were molested by someone of the opposite gender that caused them to be straight.
God forces no one to heaven nor hell!
Do you like my little spin on the typical arguments???

Itsayswhat2008: I did as you requested and looked up molestation as a possible definative cause of homosexuality. This is what the American Psychiatric Association has to say:
"There are numerous theories about the origins of a person's sexual orientation; most scientists today agree that sexual orientation is most likely the result of a complex interaction of environmental, cognitive and biological factors. In most people, sexual orientation is shaped at an early age. There is also considerable recent evidence to suggest that biology, including genetic or inborn hormonal factors, play a significant role in a person's sexuality. In summary, it is important to recognize that there are probably many reasons for a person's sexual orientation and the reasons may be different for different people [...] The well circulated belief that most gay men were at one time molested is statistically unfounded."

Hisglory: You obviously don't know what an anomaly is (something that doesn't belong or is completely unnatural). Here's a link to a study that has identified over 1500 species that practice homosexuality (some of which practice it nearly exclusively). Also, your assesment that heterosexuality is the default orientation is unfounded. If one wants to argue, it is more correct to say that asexuality is the default since very few (if any) people experience sexual arousal prior to puberty. (I have yet to meet a "boobie crazy" 2 year old!)

I remember looking at a girl not in a sexual or lustful way but just wanting to be around her and get to know her as a person and thought, that is a girl she is different than me, I knew guys couldn't give me what a girl could and I don't mean sexual. Her feminine made me feel more masculine. So I as a man I am attracted to women

According to my professor in human sexuality, it is highly likely that males are born gay or straight. Scientists have done experiments with rats involving testosterone levels at birth. They can create male rats that hump other male rats by altering hormone levels. In my own opinion, I think if you're "bisexual" male then you are gay. I mean, you have to be gay if you can get off to another man. Female sexuality, on the other hand, is more malleable. I've known plenty of girls who go through straight or gay phases, but I've never heard of such a thing with males. I think male sexuality is purely genetic. I never made a choice to be straight. I just remember hearing about homosexuality as a kid and thinking it was the weirdest thing. Female sexuality might be a combination of genetics and environment, but its hard for me to say for sure.

I don't think herosexuality is chosen any more than homosexuality. I look at another girl, and although I can admit whether she's pretty or attractive, I'm not attracted to her. it's kind of like a really nice wardrobe I saw at an art museum. Oh, it was beautiful, but I was as attracted to it as I am to girls.

Oh yeah, I remember the moment when I decided to be a heterosexual. I was in the first grade and saw my teacher bend to pick up something. Her nice roud *** and legs made me and my thingy worry a great deal.

it is not a choice. Both genetics and prenatal conditions can determine sexual orientation. So far, no correlation between post birth event and sexual orientation established (i.e. you don't choose it or be caused to choose it).
